Advantages: Bonus tracks, intimate recording Disadvantages: Not the greatest sound quality
HerbieHancock has been making high quality CD?s over the last 4 decades and this CD is no exception.
'The Piano' is a stunning album which features Hancock on his own at the piano. Tracks 8-11 feature previously unrealised material, which are different takes of earlier music on the album. This enables the listener to get a little closer to the creative mind of HerbieHancock.
The piano was an early "disc to disc" recording and the quality could be slightly better, however the listener has a unique chance to hear Hancock in action on his own.
My personal favourite is track 4 'Harvest Time'. In this track Hancock is in complete control of the music and as a listener we are left on the edge of our seats wondering what is going to happen next. Not as ground breaking as some of his other albums e.g. 'Headhunters' however this is ...
Advantages: Will Smith does a good job in a fairly boring film Disadvantages: Not comical; bit boring and slow; action scenes are all 'seen it before' stuff
I remember seeing this advertised at the cinema prior to its release in 2008 and had thought it looked interesting. Starring Will Smith, who plays the main role of 'Hancock' - a 'superhero' who is rouge, drunken and hated by the people of New York . He brings on this hatred himself with his rude ways towards people and general sense of uncaring, despite saving people in a destructive manner.
He is taken under the wing of a guy called 'Ray', of whom, is gratefully to Hancock for saving his life and is determined that Hancock be restored to public favour. He sends Hancock off to a rehab prison in order to change his ways and learn about himself. Hancock is unenthusiastic and reveals that he actually doesn't know who he is, after having been in an accident over 80 years ago (he doesn't age) and waking up with all his powers, with no ...

Advantages: great story Disadvantages: lacks detail
This is another film that I would say is not the greatest film that I have seen, but it is definately far from the worst that I have seen too, I went to see this at the cinema on Orange Wednesday as I like the films that Will Smith is normally in.
Hancock is a film with Will Smith who plays John Hancock a superhero type character as he has super powers, but he is also an alcoholic who causes millions of dollars in damage whenever he bothers to try to help fight crime, so he is hated by the public as he is seen as a waste of space as everything he does goes wrong.
He one day saves the life of a PR agent named Ray played by Jason Bateman and Ray decides to look after him by improving Hancock's image, by suggesting that he goes to prison for his lawless behaviour and the idea is that once he is in prison, the crime rate will go up ...

This four-disc box set documents Herbie Hancock's recorded career during the 1970s and '80s, and contains nearly all of the pianist's most famous compositions. However, this collection is not just about greatest hits. Project director Seth Rothstein dug deep into the Hancock archives to create a release that also has great variety and character. For example, the first disc begins with a nearly five-minute free-form improvisation from Hancock on electric piano. And even the well-known "Maiden Voyage" receives a completely different treatment here. Taken from a live concert in New York City, the track features Hancock and company turning this once understated and spacey modal jam into a fiery musical odyssey. "Domo" is another scorching live cut that boasts bold improvisations from saxophonist Wayne Shorter, trumpeter Freddie Hubbard, and Hancock himself, all anchored by drummer Tony Williams, who drives the group with bombastic irreverence. THE HERBIE HANCOCK BOX also presents Hancock's forays into electronic dance music, the most obvious inclusion being "Rockit," his early-'80s radio hit. This funky piece adds an intriguing counterpoint to this collection. However, Hancock's jazz material remains his true legacy.
