I have got this album as a gift from a friend sometimes ago. And I would like to share my point of view about this album.
The Album: "Come away with me" by Norah Jones This is an album of poetic collection, a set of country-blues ballads simply brilliant! I would just sit & relax, close my eyes. It's even better with a nice bottle of wine without any intrusions. Come Away With Me is not a CD you would put on if you need an adrenaline boost. It's one to put on if you need to relax after work or simply in a romantic circumstance because it sways.
After a year on the shelves the album has sold more than 6 million copies and won eight Grammy Awards. Five individual awards and Three other Grammys. Norah Jones won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), "Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).
Songs are mainly structured around simple piano and guitar, Occasionally you'll hear a bit of accordion or violin. Fans of smooth jazz music will no doubt be pleased by Norah
First is her voice, Norah has such a feel for the music that she can make her voice fly and carry you with her. Her way of singing expresses her emotions and reaches out to the hearts of the listeners and makes us feel the same way too. Her voice is more than just enchanting it's elegant.
Well, she definitely got magic voice, but I would say, she not jazz singer, I think she is more as pop singer or easy listening rather than Jazz.
Norah's unveiling album is also the third largest selling album of 2003 in the world. She was only 22 years old when this CD was recorded.
Norah is the daughter of legendary Indian musician Ravi Shankar and Sue Jones, and is the half-sister of musician Anoushka Shankar, Ravi Shankar 's daughter from his second marriage. She was born as Geetali Norah Jones Shankar in in New York City March 30, 1979, but later she changed her name officially to Norah Jones at age 16.
She spent her childhood with her mother and when she was four years old, they moved to Dallas suburb of Grapevine, Texas.
Since she was a young child she loved to listen to her mother LP collection like Billie Holiday and Bill Evans. She began singing in church choirs at age five, started piano lessons two years later, and briefly trying out alto saxophone in junior high. When Jones was 15, she and her mother moved from Grapevine to Dallas' central city. There she joined in Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. She did her first performance on her 16th birthday, an open-mic night at a local coffeehouse. In high school, Norah won the Down Beat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition in 1996, and earned a second SMA for Best Jazz Vocalist in 1997. After graduating from high school, she joined the respected music program at North Texas State University, majoring in jazz piano. In 1999, she went to Manhattan and never returned to North Texas State. In December, the same year, she performed regularly with the funk-fusion band Wax Poetic and soon after that she formed her own band with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander, and Dan Rieser.
Norah was signed to Blue Note in January 2001. She began recording the songs of Come Away With Me in May 2001 with producer Craig Street then in In August 2001 with Arif Mardin.

Harris and Alexander do the most of Norah's songwriting
Track Listings:
1. Don't Know Why - it is the lead track, it has poetic lyric that stimulate at a once taboo subject. A slow seduction of words that induce a feeling of absolute yearning, a certain resolution instead of taking action. Norah presents several levels of emotion - regret, nostalgia, reflect of hope, and plays a great little piano solo.
2. Seven Years - purity personified, a drier studio sound that brings out some different touches in Norahs' voice - a bit of Billie, a taste of Patsy Cline, and a good dose of country.
3. Cold Cold Heart - fast paced and heart felt at the same time, sound very sexy, delicate, with smooth as suede vocals. Alexander introduces the Hank Williams classic with a wavering bass line over which Norah sings the first chorus. She adds piano on the second verse, and Adam Levy enters with electric guitar.
4. Feelin' The Same Way - this song fills you with a joyful sad emotion - it's only medium speed but it is the fastest song on the album. This song brings out the smoky elements in Norah's voice.
5. Come Away With Me - it is the title track, the first of the original songs by Norah herself. The tempo drops but it is terribly romantic, an irresistible invitation, tender but insistent, the tune is short but excellently shaped, with the tension rising and falling with every measure.
6. Shoot The Moon - to me it sound more to a Moody Blue Song but great tune. 7. Turn Me On - the pace picks up, this song rocks slowly and soulfully. It has a sharper edge. It allows Norah to apply a tiny bit of vocal grit to an otherwise satin-smooth session. I think this is a kind of cute song.
8. Lone Star - it is a beautiful longing tune, another joyful sad emotion kind of song. Short Melodic lines.
9. I've Got To See You Again - this song is on the top of my favorite songs in this album, it offers some mysterious, seductive and spice in the form of a sultry feel to it, compulsive tango that brings violinist Jenny Scheinman in. So you will find a combination of Norah's controlled vocals with strains of mournful gypsy jazz violin that evoke darkness, the thrilling Latin affair that makes you want to tango.
10. Painter Song - full of fantasy, dreamy melody. It layered with a folk accordion and heavy rhythm section.
11. One Flight Down - One of Jesse Harris' songs with all their secret meanings *smile*. Norah's voice is very lucid and strong in this song.
12. Nightingale - a song of comfort with sensitivity, a little restless. This is the song that my friend likes the most in this album because it's a song with desire. "Nightingale" rolls its way along country roads in a folk song setting with its tangy acoustic guitar chorus.
13. The Long Day Is Over - this is a song which expresses the meaning of her lyrics quite well. Perhaps this is the slowest song in the album. I think it's a perfect song to fall asleep *smile*
14. The Nearness Of You - finally, she ends the album with a truly Jazzy song which is an intimate cocktail lounge portrait of the jazz standard, with a soulful edge; just Norah accompanying herself on piano - simple but tasteful.
Norah's voice is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. It's just Smooth Sexy Selections in a Dreamy World of Jazz, Soul and Country. Norah teases her listener with her voice, am I right? Yes, Her talent is natural, unassuming and fresh. My final word for her is that I only hope that she keeps this style and doesn't bend to be commercial like most of any other singers.

Bloomin' Norah! Review ofCome Away With Me - Norah Jonesby

Advantages: Some outstanding tracks. Disadvantages: Some rubbish.
Norah Jones - Come away with me
This album cost me a princely sum of 50p from Barnsley Sunday Market. The album, released in 2002 is still riding high in the jazz charts, and the only track I had heard prior to buying this album was 'Don't know why' which is certainly in the jazz style of ballads, and she has a jazzy voice to match. Five Grammy's, twenty million plus sales, this has gotta be a cracking album right?
Coupled with the fact that she ... ...no life. 0/10.
5. Come Away with Me
First track on the cd written by Norah. A ballad like song with a change of vocal style for her at the beginning with an almost hushed voice...piano work is quite sublime. What this song essentially does is tells a dreamy longing by someone. Not my usual type of song, yet, there is something about the guitar work again, Asian and jazz influenced that makes me really like this, and her vocals really are quite ...

...are about loves that have come and gone, her sound is not in least depressing, you can almost imagine yourself sitting in a exclusive wine bar for example in the company of a loved one listening to her sing live.
At this point it may perhaps be a good idea to describe some of the tracks for you now that you know a bit about Norah herself.
Track Listing:
“DON’T KNOW WHY” written by Jesse Harris (3.05 minutes long)
The very song ... ...who asks her lover to come away with her, somewhere they can’t tempt us with their lies, to me this seems a song about people coming between lovers. 10/10
”SHOOT THE MOON” written by Jesse Harris (3.57 minutes long)
This song has a very ”Practical Magic” feel about it and sounds like something Stevie Nicks would perhaps have penned with an injection of country thrown in for good measure. A nice little melodic tune ...

Advantages: Good production, excellent voice, soothing music Disadvantages: Could get a bit same-y / repetitive for some
Every now and again, an album comes along that everyone has to have or seems to own. When I was first really getting into music "Brothers in Arms" was one such album and through school there were two or three more. Even afterwards, away from peer pressure, they still appeared from time to time. You know the ones - Guns and Roses' first album, Automatic for the People by R.E.M. or Play by Moby to name a few.
'Come Away with Me' by Norah Jones is ... ...for my parents, it's something I play myself quite often.
Norah Jones was born on 30th March 1979 and is the daughter of sitar "legend" Ravi Shanker. As tends to be the case for children with musical parents, she has taken up music herself and is quite an all-rounder by contributing in many ways to the album as singer, piano, songwriter and producer.
It's quite a difficult album to categorise; many people instantly pick up on the jazz overtones ...

...mainstream pop music. They have come along at the perfect time, because the majority of music lovers and listeners are tiring of manufactured pop, and the stereotypical warblers who seem to rule the singles charts. This album was released in early 2002, and was instantly given a big thumbs up from the music critics, but the acid test was the record buying public, and they answered any doubts by buying her album in their thousands.
The single which ... ...of the tracks that would come to mind when you think of this album. The mood of 'Turn Me On' is given away by the title. I doubt it will ever rank up there with the likes of 'Let's Get It On' because it is not commercial enough, but if you are looking for music to put you in the mood for love then you need look no further. Her voice just oozes sexiness here, and she hints at what she expecting when her partner arrives home.

...Awards and Accolades for Come Away With Me.
With the arrival of her debut Album Come Away With Me, Norah Jones gained public recognition world-wide. The album was celebrated for its blend of mellow and soulful acoustic songs and she had her first #1 in the States with single "Don't know Why." The album then went on to reach #1 in the charts in 2003.
Her success was confirmed again when she walked away from the American Grammy Awards in 2003 with ... ...and allure of her voice come out in this song the most and I could listen to it again and again and again. (And then I'd have to go find my partner!)
If any song is a letdown on this album, it would have to be Lone Star. As the title suggests, it is a little bit more country than I would normally go for. Having said that, I still wouldn't skip through this track.
Opinion
A perfect album for a relaxing evening sitting on the deck with friends… ...

..."Bluring the boundaries between jazz, country and pop, it has the potential to be one of the coolest downbeat albums of the year." - Arena
"A voice that will melt the stoniest of hearts." - The Independent
"Marvellous debut." - Mojo
These are the testimonies on the front of NorahJones debut album, ComeAway with Me. It was released in 2002 and has become an absolute classic. I think just about everybody I know, no matter what type of music they like have this album. THe album was certified diamond by the RIAA on February 15, 2005 having sold over 10 million copies in its first three years of release. It won five awards at the Grammy Awards of 2003, including "Record of the Year", "Album of the Year", and "Song of the Year" for "Don't Know Why".

Feels Like Home with The Handsome Band and special guests.
I am a big fan of NorahJones. Her first album, ComeAway with Me was an absolute classic. The album was certified diamond by the RIAA on February 15, 2005 having sold over 10 million copies in its first three years of release. It won five awards at the Grammy Awards of 2003, including "Record of the Year", "Album of the Year", and "Song of the Year" for "Don't Know Why".
With her second album I definitely feel she is having fun with her music and producing the type of songs that she really wants to sing as well as collaborating with artists she admires and who would not be everybody's first choice of a singing partner. It's so refreshing to see an artist who can not only sing but...

...If you have read my review of NorahJones first album (ComeAway With Me), then you will know that it was only recently I discovered what I have been missing out on.
“ComeAway With Me” was a tremendous debut album winning her several Grammy awards, no to mention selling millions of copies, an outstanding start any performer would be delighted with. So it goes without saying that her second album would have to be something simply magical to keep the fan base from being disappointed.
NorahJones released her second album “Feels Like Home” less than 2 years after “ComeAway With Me”, for those of you who know nothing of her, her rich sultry style can only be described as somewhere between Jazz and Country with a slight injection of pop.
“ComeAway With Me” was a much more relaxed...

Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical). A direct descendant from the pedigree of one of the 20th century's virtuosos, Norah Jones might not be on such a lofty artistic level as her dad Ravi Shankar, but certainly inherited some musical intuition from him. With nary a sitar nor raga within earshot, the young newcomer sounds very much an assimilated, western, 21st century pop-jazz singer. One thing that separates her from the pack is Ms. Jones' own piano stylings--not flashy, but deftly doubling or echoing her voice--that discreetly act as the glue holding together these airy, delicate, and beautiful arrangements. But the centerpiece is certainly the 22-year-old's confident-beyond-her-years vocal delivery in addition to a precise diction and velvety tone. Shades of Nina Simone, vintage Phoebe Snow, and a less beatnik Rickie Lee Jones are evident throughout as the young siren coolly sashays through mostly new material by guitarist-songwriter Jesse Harris (formerly of Once Blue) and a few choice covers. Veteran producer Arif Mardin frames a most notable debut with a translucent touch, and appearances by jazz heroes Bill Frisell and Brian Blade gild the lily.
