I have got this album as a gift from a friend sometimes ago. And I would like to share my point of view about this album.

The Album:
"Come away with me" by Norah Jones
This is an album of poetic collection, a set of country-blues ballads
simply brilliant!
I would just sit & relax, close my eyes. It's even better with a nice bottle of wine without any intrusions.
Come Away With Me is not a CD you would put on if you need an adrenaline boost. It's one to put on if you need to relax after work or simply in a romantic circumstance because it sways.

After a year on the shelves the album has sold more than 6 million copies and won eight Grammy Awards.
Five individual awards and Three other Grammys.
Norah Jones won the 2003 Grammy Award for Best New Artist, COME AWAY WITH ME won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year, Best Pop Vocal Album and Best Engineered Album (Non-Classical), "Don't Know Why" won the 2003 Grammy Awards for Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, Arif Mardin won the 2003 Grammy Award for Producer Of The Year (Non-Classical).

Songs are mainly structured around simple piano and guitar, Occasionally you'll hear a bit of accordion or violin.
Fans of smooth jazz music will no doubt be pleased by Norah

First is her voice, Norah has such a feel for the music that she can make her voice fly and carry you with her. Her way of singing expresses her emotions and reaches out to the hearts of the listeners and makes us feel the same way too.
Her voice is more than just enchanting it's elegant.

Well, she definitely got magic voice, but I would say, she not jazz singer, I think she is more as pop singer or easy listening rather than Jazz.

Norah's unveiling album is also the third largest selling album of 2003 in the world. She was only 22 years old when this CD was recorded.

Norah is the daughter of legendary Indian musician Ravi Shankar and Sue Jones, and is the half-sister of musician Anoushka Shankar, Ravi Shankar 's daughter from his second marriage.
She was born as Geetali Norah Jones Shankar in in New York City March 30, 1979, but later she changed her name officially to Norah Jones at age 16.

She spent her childhood with her mother and when she was four years old, they moved to Dallas suburb of Grapevine, Texas.

Since she was a young child she loved to listen to her mother LP collection like Billie Holiday and Bill Evans.
She began singing in church choirs at age five, started piano lessons two years later, and briefly trying out alto saxophone in junior high.
When Jones was 15, she and her mother moved from Grapevine to Dallas' central city. There she joined in Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
She did her first performance on her 16th birthday, an open-mic night at a local coffeehouse.
In high school, Norah won the Down Beat Student Music Awards for Best Jazz Vocalist and Best Original Composition in 1996, and earned a second SMA for Best Jazz Vocalist in 1997.
After graduating from high school, she joined the respected music program at North Texas State University, majoring in jazz piano.
In 1999, she went to Manhattan and never returned to North Texas State. In December, the same year, she performed regularly with the funk-fusion band Wax Poetic and soon after that she formed her own band with Jesse Harris, Lee Alexander, and Dan Rieser.

Norah was signed to Blue Note in January 2001.
She began recording the songs of Come Away With Me in May 2001 with producer Craig Street then in In August 2001 with Arif Mardin.

The CD:

The Band:
Personnel: Norah Jones (vocals, piano, Wurlitzer piano); Jesse Harris, Kevin Breit (acoustic & electric guitars); Tony Scherr (acoustic guitar, slide guitar); Adam Levy, Bill Frisell (electric guitar); Adam Rogers (guitar); Jenny Scheinman (violin); Sam Yahel (Hammond B-3 organ); Rob Burger (organ); Lee Alexander (bass); Brian Blade (drums, percussion); Dan Reiser, Kenny Wollesen (drums).

Harris and Alexander do the most of Norah's songwriting

Track Listings:

1. Don't Know Why - it is the lead track, it has poetic lyric that stimulate at a once taboo subject. A slow seduction of words that induce a feeling of absolute yearning, a certain resolution instead of taking action. Norah presents several levels of emotion - regret, nostalgia, reflect of hope, and plays a great little piano solo.

2. Seven Years - purity personified, a drier studio sound that brings out some different touches in Norahs' voice - a bit of Billie, a taste of Patsy Cline, and a good dose of country.

3. Cold Cold Heart - fast paced and heart felt at the same time, sound very sexy, delicate, with smooth as suede vocals. Alexander introduces the Hank Williams classic with a wavering bass line over which Norah sings the first chorus. She adds piano on the second verse, and Adam Levy enters with electric guitar.

4. Feelin' The Same Way - this song fills you with a joyful sad emotion - it's only medium speed but it is the fastest song on the album. This song brings out the smoky elements in Norah's voice.

5. Come Away With Me - it is the title track, the first of the original songs by Norah herself. The tempo drops but it is terribly romantic, an irresistible invitation, tender but insistent, the tune is short but excellently shaped, with the tension rising and falling with every measure.

6. Shoot The Moon - to me it sound more to a Moody Blue Song but great tune.
7. Turn Me On - the pace picks up, this song rocks slowly and soulfully. It has a sharper edge. It allows Norah to apply a tiny bit of vocal grit to an otherwise satin-smooth session. I think this is a kind of cute song.

8. Lone Star - it is a beautiful longing tune, another joyful sad emotion kind of song. Short Melodic lines.

9. I've Got To See You Again - this song is on the top of my favorite songs in this album, it offers some mysterious, seductive and spice in the form of a sultry feel to it, compulsive tango that brings violinist Jenny Scheinman in. So you will find a combination of Norah's controlled vocals with strains of mournful gypsy jazz violin that evoke darkness, the thrilling Latin affair that makes you want to tango.

10. Painter Song - full of fantasy, dreamy melody. It layered with a folk accordion and heavy rhythm section.

11. One Flight Down - One of Jesse Harris' songs with all their secret meanings *smile*. Norah's voice is very lucid and strong in this song.

12. Nightingale - a song of comfort with sensitivity, a little restless. This is the song that my friend likes the most in this album because it's a song with desire. "Nightingale" rolls its way along country roads in a folk song setting with its tangy acoustic guitar chorus.

13. The Long Day Is Over - this is a song which expresses the meaning of her lyrics quite well. Perhaps this is the slowest song in the album. I think it's a perfect song to fall asleep *smile*

14. The Nearness Of You - finally, she ends the album with a truly Jazzy song which is an intimate cocktail lounge portrait of the jazz standard, with a soulful edge; just Norah accompanying herself on piano - simple but tasteful.

Norah's voice is the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. It's just Smooth Sexy Selections in a Dreamy World of Jazz, Soul and Country. Norah teases her listener with her voice, am I right?
Yes, Her talent is natural, unassuming and fresh.
My final word for her is that I only hope that she keeps this style and doesn't bend to be commercial like most of any other singers.

Superb review or an album I like, but don't really love. May well dig it out and have a re-listen now though.
