Album Notes: Eighth album from revered, seminal Swedish band, pioneers of the melodic death metal scene which has so influenced US metalcore in the early 2000s. It features a return to the brutal, thrashing heaviness of their earlier work, whilst simultaneously continuing to evolve towards the more melodic style which they introduced on their last two albums. Also features an unexpected guest spot from pop star Lisa Miskovsky. This version includes a DVD of the band performing the whole album live in the rehearsal room.
Advantages: Some accomplished bits. Disadvantages: Screaming and samey drum beats.
...In Flames - ComeClarity
Yet another of my 14 year old (next months) son's offerings which he insists 'You must listen to this dad'. This is by no means my longest review as I am not going to 'fill' when I have not much to say.
Wikipedia tell me that these are a Swedish melodic death metal band.....not a good start, however, being am open minded dad I thought I should give them a a go. Though I do fail to see how Death Metal can be melodic, ho, hum.
This album was released in 2006 and looking at the art work on the cover I kinda had a good idea what it might sound like. Best album in the Swedish Grammy awards, well there you go.

Advantages: Amazing album Disadvantages: yet again none
...I'm saying it again. In Flames is THE best band ever.
While I don't have the DVD I do have the album, and it needs a review.
Another powerful body of work, varied and will make an impression on your musical tastes, providing you don't already worship them :D
It starts well with F(r)iend, heavy and epic as usual.
Then you have The Quiet Place, it sounds ambient at first, but soon breaks out into mad guitaring.
Dead Alone is another one that starts quiet and with a crescendo of a sort goes into the rest of the song.
Touch Of Red is slower than the others, with a moving sort of sound. Slows down for a long time at the end, you wait quite a while before the next track comes on.
LIke You Better Dead puts emphasis on the vocals and guitars at alternating times, creating an excellent overall effect.
My Sweet Shadow is one of my...

Advantages: Exceptional song writing, very good lyrics Disadvantages: Not THAT many amazing riffs, but apart from that perfect
...In Flames songwriting capacity comes across as flawless in this album. Structurally the tracks are interesting, musically they are phenomenal, lyric wise they are certainly a cut above other competition, and the skill with which each band member uses his instrument his mind blowing. Screaming guitar solos aside, each track is entirely individual. Contrary to many other albums, similarity of tracks does not exist on this record.
ComeClarity opens with the blaze of 'Take This Life' and as soon as the off-beat drumming subsides into the deep, battering rumble of the opening riff, you know that In Flames have hit the nail on the head. The album proceeds through 'Leeches' and 'Reflect the Storm' (both phenomenal tracks) before coming to my personal highlight of the album 'Dead End'. Here a strong gothic influence can be heard, as a female...
