In Flames songwriting capacity comes across as flawless in this album. Structurally the tracks are interesting, musically they are phenomenal, lyric wise they are certainly a cut above other competition, and the skill with which each band member uses his instrument his mind blowing. Screaming guitar solos aside, each track is entirely individual. Contrary to many other albums, similarity of tracks does not exist on this record.
Come Clarity opens with the blaze of 'Take This Life' and as soon as the off-beat drumming subsides into the deep, battering rumble of the opening riff, you know that In Flames have hit the nail on the head. The album proceeds through 'Leeches' and 'Reflect the Storm' (both phenomenal tracks) before coming to my personal highlight of the album 'Dead End'. Here a strong gothic influence can be heard, as a female singer is used alongside front man Anders Friden.
Whilst on the subject of Anders, it is worth mentioning the superb vocal quality of the album. Fans of metal and hardcore, even screamo, will not be disappointed, as his high pitched scream links perfectly with the blistering melodies, and manages to give Come Clarity a tension that is carried throughout each track up until the very end.
Other highlights of the album include 'Scream' and self titled track 'Come Clarity', the most melodic of the record.
Rarely since the days of Metallica and Machine Head has the metal scene witnessed great musical masterpieces. However, I believe In Flames have penned one here, and strongly hope that it is hailed as a high point of metal music for years to come. Certainly the band's strongest to date. Buy it now.

Great review for a truely awesome album! I think this in flames have definitly got better with age, combining hardcore metal with awe inspiring melodies. Can't see anyone not liking this album and indeed in flames in general, which says alot about the band. Feel free to browse some of my reviews.

Advantages: Fantastic lyrical album with plenty of thought behind it Disadvantages: Some simple riffs where perhaps more complexity would have been better

Advantages: Clearer Sound Compared to past albums, larger target audience, more adventurous drumming Disadvantages: Not for those who like raw death metal, more clean vocals could be a put off
