The Opera House

Advantages: Wasn't expensive
Disadvantages: Hour tour wasn't long enough

SYDNEY OPERA HOUSE Sydney Opera house is located on the eastern headland of Circular Quay just a few minutes from the train station. It is made up of 1,056,000 Swedish tiles on the roof, which are off white and are self-cleaning. Construction began in 1959 after a Danish architect Jorn Utzon won an international design competition for the $7 million building. In 1966 Utzon quit after political interference leaving Australian architects to design the interior costing $102million. He has never seen the building completed. Utzon who is now in his eighties has announced to refurbish the interior and he has high hopes that it will be full of colour rather than a black hole. His son comes to Australia to oversee any developments. It was finally was completed against all odds and after several disagreements in 1973. It now is one ...

The Three Merry Lads, Sheffield

Advantages: Lovely Food, Fantastic Views
Disadvantages: Quite Expensive

The Three Merry Lads is a Public House that is situated approximately five miles to the West of Sheffield City Centre, beyond the more affluent Suburbs of Crosspool, Sandygate and Lodge Moor. It occupies an enviable location perched on top of a hillside, overlooking the Rivelin Valley. As a regular visitor to this area on my trips to the nearby Redmires Reservoirs and surrounding Moorlands this is a place that I have passed many times, yet I seldom ventured through its door. One such occasion when I did visit here recently I had a meal with a few friends and a thoroughly good day out was had by all. The Three Merry Lads is a Pub that has lots of charm and character. This stone built building began its life back in 1810 when it was a farm building, known as White Low. White Low was owned by the Marsden family, who had three sons ...

Review of The Three Merry Lads, Sheffield

Reminds me of my own little sod .......

Advantages: -
Disadvantages: -

I was given this book just last night by a friend who was having a book shelf clear out - and I finished it this morning, thinking 'I wish I'd read this as a new mum.' Most parents, at some point, will have had one of those days when their new baby just wouldn't stop crying - You feed it, you burp it, you change its nappy, and still, it wail . If you're like me, you probably look at your baby with pleading eyes, and wish you knew what it was thinking, so you could sort it out and get some sleep. And if you're baby is anything like the Little Sod , it's probably thinking 'If I scream and scream very quickly without taking any breaths, my face turns purple. It works a treat, she comes rushing back , scooping me off the floor to try and calm my frenzy, before finally admitting defeat and heading for home' How to be a Little Sod is ...
