I first heard this album at a party back in 2002 - everyone was off their heads, we'd been dancing for hours and the night had just started to feel that way it does when everyone seems to be slowing down and starting to chill, little alliances being made and groups forming in corners talking ... narcolepsy. This fantastic album roars out of the starting blocks like a supercharged dragster, blowing up a heady fume of hip-hop techno flavoured with the Chemical's new found post-rave happiness. Their fourth album shows all the passion of their earlier works coupled with a sophistication beyond the mere wish to knock people's musical heads off. Impressively after over six years of making music and touring they've lost none of their enthusiasm. In fact their longevity seems to inspire them to greater achievement in a field that traditionally feeds off the new, the novel and the young. Best of all, the Brothers have developed the ability to communicate heartfelt emotions, evident on tracks such as the Beth Orton sung "The State We're In", the Pink Floyd-like "Pioneer Skies" and magnificent album closer "The Test". That doesn't mean that there aren't the "traditional" Chemical Brothers' dancefloor killers. The opener and title track "Come With Us" is easily the pulsating equal of "Hey Boy Hey Girl" or 1995's "Block Rockin' Beats". Both already released singles, the bizarre "It Began in Afrika" and the Donna Summer-meets-Kraftwerk blur of "Star Guitar" are included in their original form. They're probably the album's weakest tracks. The Brothers have moved on, yet they're still as good as they were. Go with them. --Jake Barnes
Advantages: Danceable, original, eclectic - what more could you want? Disadvantages: Lack of hits (if that's a problem for you)
...talking crap when someone put Come With Us on, the title track of this album. The first cacophonous, discordant keyboards shimmered out, the massive beats kicked in and everyone immediately got back up to dance without saying a word, it was just the right thing to do. The album was brand new, so it wasn't as if this was a familiar song that we all knew and loved; it was just an instant CRASH moment where everyone just looks at each other and smirks.
... ...a lot of the tunes are radically different from each other but the album works because the Chemicals know how to make an album; with them, it's always a journey more than a collection of tracks, and each track segues effortlessly into the next, moving up in tempo then coming back down again at just the right time. There's the spacey, mid-tempo tranced-out bliss of Star Guitar, the big beats of It Began In Afrika and the floorfiller anthem of Denmark ...

Advantages: Just a brilliant all-in-one mix cd! Disadvantages: Some bits are a bit obscure?
I bought this mix cd last easter whilst on holiday. I had all the Chemical Brothers Albums and thought, it can't halm to add another to the collection. At first when I looked at the tracklisting, I had ideas of it being another of these one's crammed with obscure and rare 80's/70's cheesy records. How wrong I was. You see, it starts off with a nice strumming guitar at the begining of track one. Soon came in the other instruments including what sounds ... ...Then in came Justin's vocals from Not Another Drugstore which merges fantasticly into Block Rockin' Beats Micronaughts Mix. Soon, the distorted drums were melting magically into a funky 70's acid track that had me dancing. The rest of this cd basically goes the same way, and I'm glad so as this is one of the best mix cd's I've ever heard. Anyone care to find me one better? It must be Live At The Social! ...
