All these songs are taken from the album “Initial B.B.” Serge met Brigite ... more
Here is one of some compilations of Mister Serge Gainsbourg, the famous artist who rested in the paradise and angels since 1991.
To understand his art and his state of mind about his creation and inspiration, here is some piece of news from the genius artist that Serge was.
Serge became successful at the age of 50 though we wrote many songs for famous female singers. Serge could paint, art that he left behind, play a piano, and had the magic to make poetry, words sound like an echo. His themes were women, beauty and alcohol. Serge was a director also and he made many ads.
Despite his taste for provocation, Serge was a hurt-wounded-soul-man. He crossed through the years and trends with his own style, reaching the top of poetry in songs. “Avant-gardiste” in his way, he was the first French artist who played reggae music in France.
Serge as Jaques Brel or Edith Piaf, is the reference in French music. No one had ever reached his art and his music and words inspire the new generation.
A couple of years ago, some English and American singers or bands played Serge’s music and made him know all around the world. His music as the man is still alive in French people’s heart...

All these songs are taken from the album “Initial B.B.” Serge met Brigite Bardot, nicknamed BB and had a short love affair with her. This album is one of his best before the opus of “Melody Nelson” written for Jane Birkin. The album reflects the most popular songs and is a hymn of Glamour, beauty of the Star of the 60’. Serge dedicated his tribute to Brigitte.
“Docteur Jekyll et Monsieur Hide” is a song of Serge thoughts about his face, his way to look at himself; what he would became during the 80’: Gainsbourg/Gainsbarre: a character between beauty and ugliness, between happiness and pain, between provocation and sensitivity. It resumes his idea about beauty and his relationship with women he loved, his being of despair, the mirror he hide behind...
Serge said once “There are some days I do feel like a big shit”
♪ Sous le Soleil exactement ♪ Soixante Neuf Année Erotique ♪ Les Sucettes ♪ L’Anamour ♪ Je t’Aime... Moi non plus
Are songs taken from the album “Jane Birkin – Serge Gainsbourg” and “Histoire de Melody Nelson”. These two albums turn into climax of Serge’s career. Jane sang eroticism: soft, hot whispers are murmured with an ability of poetry and respect of woman.
“Les Sucettes” sang by France Gall can be compared to Prince’s song “Cream” and shocked the singer herself. You have to know that Serge wrote many songs for the generation of the 60’, especially Lolita’s. He said about all the songs he wrote at this time: ”All those songs I wrote for young girls was just to make money... even if they were pretty, I never wrote bullshits for me, I let them for other...”
Serge wrote more than 400 songs: from psychedelic, cha cha, reggae, funk, he still remains a great artist for those who want to know him and overcome prejudices about him...

Personnel includes: Serge Gainsbourg, Brigitte Bardot, Jane Birkin. Recorded between 1958 and 1969. Around the same time Bob Dylan went electric in Newport, several thousand miles away in France Serge Gainsbourg, hip avatar of all things French, embraced the modish Carnaby street rock & roll sweeping England and America, producing some of the most vital music of his career, not to mention the sexiest. For a man whose personal appearance had been described as a handicap, Gainsbourg managed to produce some of the best pre-Prince makeout music on either side of the Atlantic. The breathy "Je t'aime... Moi Non Plus," a duet with Jane Birkin, oozes the scent of the boudoir, and her vocals on "Comic Strip" and the sublime "Bonnie and Clyde" (later to be sampled by Mc Solaar) prove that Brigitte Bardot's assets weren't confined to the visual. Add the rave-up "Docteur Jekyll et Monsieur Hyde," and you have the makings of a heck of a cocktail party.
