Album Notes: Kournakova are an Essex four piece act, whose indie guitar sound has seen them be compared to The Stone Roses and The Bluetones. 'Communicate Don't Fade' was produced by Andy Hawkins at 5 Miles High Studios in Peterborough. The album contains the singles 'Sleepless When You're Thinking' and 'Even If'.
Advantages: Superbly different sound, easy listening Disadvantages: After a few listens a few of the tracks start to sond similar
...Despite being largely placed in the rock category of music, don't be fooled by this lot, they have a very individual approach to the way in which their music turns out...
With Greg Gilbert as lead vocalist, he offers the key difference to this guitar based band, with the most amazingly high pitched vocals for an all-male rock band. Although he sings in a alrgely high pitched way, it is most certainly not displeasing to the ears!
Also featuring his brother Aaron Gilbert on Keys, Programming and backing vocals, Colin Fox, bass and backing vocals, and a man only known as Rowly on Drums, this is a thoroughly good debut album for the Southampton Quartet, who met during 1996 in the Britpop "hang-over" period. They have such an individual sound its difficult to pinpoint exactly who they sound like...but they are laregly influenced by "The La...

Advantages: Lo-fi alt-pop with stories to tell Disadvantages: A couple of obvious influences
...from calm, soothing ballads such as the aforementioned Guilty Prayers, Pointless Ends; to potential dancefloor hits. Highlights of the latter include the up-tempo Say No More, and Up To You, which with its deep, expansive, tuneful bass, and high-pitched organ reminds a little of Broken Social Scene, except of course with a hell of a lot less members. It has a genuinely interesting sound, with lots of depth, and its chorus becomes something approaching anthemic – it could sound fantastic in a club at full volume.
Don’t Fuck with Me is so Hot Chip it could be put on a re-release of The Warning as a bonus track and nobody would notice. The tune, the lazy dancefloor rhythm, the subject matter, even the sound of Kitt’s voice - which has the classic sort of calm, emotionless delivery of threats to a nice tune that Alexis Taylor specialises in...

Advantages: Some amazingly good songs!! Disadvantages: "From Myself Baby" - not too keen
...reviews for the tracks o this album, and I kept coming across a track called 'Luxury' which kept getting praised. When I heard it I wasn't that keen, because it sounds very 'Blink 182-esque' , but it has grown on me, and the swing beat carries it through. ---7/10---
3 - DON'T LET IT GO TO WASTE
Third single and title track. This track shows a more mellow Matt Willis (try sayin that after a few drinks!). It starts of with soft vocals and a piano, and is everything you would expect of a rock power ballad, as it bursts into a guitar driven BEAST of a song. It is a fantastic song with a brilliant emotive vocal performance from Mr Matt. ---9/10---
4 - UP ALL NIGHT
Now, now, now... what can I say about this!! If I ever wanted credit for writing a great pop song, I only wish it could be this one I got it for. This is my ultimate favourite song...
