A Complete Load of the Brown Stuff

Disadvantages: Poor writing and characterisation

. Brown hasn?t written them well at all, meaning they never really come off the page at you and remain two dimensional characters and nothing more. I found myself not caring who was still alive at the end and whether the police would catch up with them. This takes the edge of the mystery, as when you?ve got two sides competing and you really don?t give a damn who wins, the mystery also becomes an irrelevance. I went through the whole book waiting for something to happen that would pique my interest and I?m still waiting. Brown hasn?t made the clues terribly convincing, either. There doesn?t seem to be a great deal of work involved in solving them and when the answers are revealed, they always seem to be very simplistic, even more so when you consider that the people trying to solve them are specialists in this field. The First Year

Advantages: Good info, handy, food recipes

/information books but I have been pleasantly surprised by reading this. The Complete First Yeat Planner is a guide to help you enjoy a healthy pregnancy and a stress free and healthy first year including over 80 delicious recipes for you and your baby. If you are looking for a one stop book to see you through the whole time then this is definitely for you. Generally I always find that there are books for preganacy and then there are books regarding how to deal with the first year but not many are combined so this is a good book for that. The first section of the book has a really good nutrition section for the expectant mother. I found this to be quite comprehensive compared to some other books I have read. I liek the fact that it points out "superfoods," those whicha re going to be very beneficial for your health and it makes it easy to stick to ...

Those Weird Angelinos (This Book Will Save Your Life - A.M. Homes

Advantages: well written, funny, compelling read
Disadvantages: not a single truly likeable character; no lasting impact

This is the first book by A.M. Homes that I have read and thus I had no preconceptions of my own approaching it. The professionals' reviews uttered things like 'glass-sharp' and 'acid-etched' while the readers' ones were more along the lines of 'nice' and 'uplifting'. And Stephen King said that it might even save somebody's life. There is little doubt that "This Book Will Save Your Life" won't do any such thing, in fact it's one of those books that one enjoys a lot while reading, but which leaves no lasting impact. On the surface, it's an enjoyable story of emotional redemption, of a man re-establishing his connections with human world and his own emotions and history and thus coming back to what's defined as 'life'.
