Advantages: Amazing contrast of voices, Disadvantages: Some sonic quality is lost due to the age of the recording
This CD is a brilliant stepping-stone into the Jazz world. The instantly recognisable voice of LouisArmstrong is familiarly heart warming, Louis stood next to the sensational Ella, make a fine pair. The strong vocals are supported by the excellent band, with great instrumental links keeping the listener on the edge of their seat.
The intensity and coarseness of Mr. Armstrong's voice compels the audience to wish for the next scat solo or the next parade of incredible human talent that is Louis. Of course the same can be said of the sassy Ms. Fitzgerald who can sustain these high levels of aptitude.
I recommend this CD to any budding music fan who wishes to broaden their Musical horizons! HAPPY LISTENING!
BY, JAKE HEMMING ...
I love reggae music, especially Bob Marley, but if I am honest I also like a bit of Jazz, not any old Jazz though, when I say Jazz I mean LouisArmstrong.
LouisArmstrong a Jazz musician that will not be forgotten and an act that will never be followed, some Jazz musicians will try and follow in his footsteps but non will succeed, Louis was unique.
Who else could have that rough, gravel like voice that could become so famous, that famous smile and the twinkle in his eyes?
LouisArmstrong (satchmo) the name he was well known as.
Louis was born into a poor family from New Orleans on August 4th 1901.
Sent away to a reform school for two years that?s when and where he first learned to play the coronet.
After leaving reform school Louis was hired locally as a general dogsbody, but the music was in his bones and he frequently ...

Advantages: Beautiful Lady with a Beautiful Voice Disadvantages: None
I found this CD a couple of years ago in my mum's collection when I was looking for something to listen to as I was bored. I was pleasently suprised when I discovered it had lots of pieces that I already knew. I have been brought up surrounded by classical, jazz, blues etc as my parents are fanatics and to be honest I prefer classic singers to modern music (which is quite unusual for a 20 year old!).
She was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25th, 1917 and died on June 15th, 1996. In her lifetime, Ella won 13 Grammy awards and also sold over 40 million album, working with Jazz ledgends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Nat King Cole. She was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25th, 1917 and died on June 15th, 1996. EllaFitzgerald has a warm, romantic style of singing and sounds sooo relaxed when she's singing and you ...

Full performer name: Ella Fitzgerald/Louis Armstrong. Full title: The Complete Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong On Verve. Personnel includes: Louis Armstrong (vocals, trumpet); Ella Fitzgerald (vocals); Russell Garcia (conductor); Ed Hall (clarinet); Trummy Young (trombone); Oscar Peterson, Billy Kyle (piano); Herb Ellis (guitar); Ray Brown, Dale Jones (bass); Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, Barrett Deems (drums); The Russell Garcia Orchestra. Recorded between August 1956 and October 1957. Includes liner notes by William Ruhlmann. THE COMPLETE ELLA FITZGERALD & LOUIS ARMSTRONG ON VERVE was nominated for a 1998 Grammy Award for Best Recording Package - Boxed. This compact, stylishly packaged, three-disc box set delivers exactly what the title promises: every one of the 47 master tracks (including a few unreleased tracks) recorded by Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong for Verve between August 1956 and October 1957. The jazz standards and pop songs on disc one and two are what gained the most attention at the time, and justifiably so--Fitzgerald and Armstrong are possibly the two greatest scat singers in jazz history, and under Norman Granz's magnificent tutelage, both perform at the best of their abilities. But it's the material on disc three that's possibly the most satisfying. Fitzgerald and Armstrong perform the complete song score to George and Ira Gershwin's PORGY AND BESS, and it may well be the definitive vocal interpretation, as individual yet true to the intent of the composers as Miles Davis's and Gil Evans' more renowned instrumental version. Fitzgerald and Armstrong's take on the score is an overlooked masterpiece.
