Complete Live At Ronnie Scott's 1980 - Bill Evans

...Curtis mayfield has to be one of soul's greats. he has a sensitivity that can be felt in his timing and of course his lyrics. The Ronnie Scotts album is a great one for hearing this because of the quality of the musicians Mayfield has gathered and the superb tightness of the band. He plays a nember of Curtis classics (from songs from Superfly, Move on Up etc)but its great to hear the talent of the live musicians taking them to new hights. The purcussion in the track Superfly is nothing short of superb and Lobrian Scott's base playing is an inspiration. Plus, most unusually for a live album, the audience actually manage to clap in time and sing in tune! Testimony to the magical atmosphere that must have been created that night.... Read review

Advantages: Good mix of pre- and post-Ozzy
Disadvantages: Dio isn't Ozzy, but he's still very good!

...as to what the exact reason was, but Ozzy left/was fired and Ronnie James Dio was brought in and Geoff Nicholls became the permanent keyboard player. The band released the studio album Heaven and Hell before Bill Ward left due to health and personal reasons (he liked a wee drink and both his parents died soon after one another) to be replaced by Vinny Appice. This new line up released the Mob Rules album before this album, Live Evil was released from the Mob Rules tour... interestingly, neither Dio nor Appice are listed as full band members because they had left by the time of the albums release! ALBUM: The album begins with the mysterious noises that comprise E5150 from the Mob Rules album, one of Iommi's random instrumentals which as a stand alone would be in my opinion pointless, but in this scenario it supplies a gentle build up as you...
