...hole I'm sorry I saw a priest being beaten and I made a wish but I'm just a pitiful anonymous The album overall is very mixed in style with a few of the songs transferring well into the commerical area such as The Nobodies and Disposable Teens (we've all tapped the wheel to that one). Even The Fight Song with its Blur Song 2 style opening was very well received by a mass audience. Aisde from that, there are a couple of his trademark dark ballads (In the Shadow of The Valley of Death for example), some very deep epics (Valentines Day), numerous samples (such as someone saying Oswald should have suffered a lot more) and some rip roaring old style Manson classics like Born Again and The Death Song. Advantages: Toe-tappingly upbeat in places
Disadvantages: JT as grizzled Blues Man - John Lee Hooker he aint!

...to sound black and doing a bad job of it. The low point is the use of the F-word.... and the crowd even cheer him! Hearing James Taylor swear is like hearing your kindly old aunt make a rascist comment, unexpected and totally out of context. Nonetheless this album stands shoulder to shoulder with Paul Simon's 'Graceland': all it lacks is the thought provoking lyrics and inspired use of South African singers. I would say its the perfect accompaniment to kicking back and relaxing, all your problems will be smoothed away by JT's soothing voice joyful but with an edge of regret and loss. Advantages: Two albums both offering something different. Great songs
Disadvantages: The old happy acoustic songs are lost.

...a tireing day. This side of the Foo Fighters is lost on the acoustic side; though dont let this throw you off: Where as you could describe the older songs as happy you could describe these as beautiful in an acoustical sense rather than the love song sense. The best song on the acoustic song is 'Cold Day in the Sun'; where the lead singer 'Dave Grohl' swaps roles with the drummer 'Taylor Hawkins' (Dave - Drums, Taylor - Guitar and Vocals). One of the last songs of the album is its secret weapon and shows how much the Foo Fighters are willing to experiment. You may also be interested that the acoustic side has 'John Paul Jones' (Led Zeppelin) and 'Norah Jones' assisting the lads of Foo Fighters.
