...Antonio Forcione – Touch Wood Antonio Forcione is an Italian virtuoso guitarist who started his musical career at the age of 13 when he toured Italy with his band playing guitar, mandolin and drums. He then studied art at Ancona and music in Rome before leaving for London where he hoped to find inspiration. Initially he busked as he couldn’t speak English then within two months he was spotted, played a slot on BBC2 and was asked to join the group Barclay James Harvest on their European tour. He has won “Best spirit of the Fringe” at the Edinburgh fringe festival and has performed with and opened for several artists including Phil Collins and Jools Holland. Advantages: Beautiful acoustic guitar music superbly played
Disadvantages: Very difficult now to get hold of as original CD.

.... It seemed to have this immediate appeal to me. All of these tracks are very listenable whether you are a jazz fan or not. The slowest track played is Ill Wind. The remaining numbers are either medium paced, How Insensitive or played fast, Joy Spring. How Insensitive was the track I first heard on Jazz FM, and is my favourite here. You'll probably recognise the tune without necessarily knowing it by name. It was written by Brazilian Antonio Carlos Jobim who wrote the very famous Girl From Ipenema. The version here is superb. Larry Coryell wrote tracks 1) and 5), with the remaining songs being cover versions of standards. Being new to this album the problem arises, who is playing the lead at any particular time on a song. Advantages: Gorgeous music, played with much passion

...Gerhardt, has a particular interest in more unusual repertoire. One of the great advantages of this CD which should make it even more attractive to the potential buyer, is that both artists have frequently worked together in the past, which in my opinion is always a good thing when it comes to collaborating on a recording. The orchestra is the BBC Scottish Symphony. Music and Performances: Ernö Dohnányi (1877-1960) - Konzertstück in D major Op. 12: Dohnányi was born in Bratislava (his grandson is the eminent conductor Christoph von Dohnányi) and first established himself as a virtuoso pianist. However, after Johannes Brahms complimented him on his first composition efforts, he combined his playing career with his composing.
