A CD is always more compelling when you know it's lifted from the artist's autobiography, ... more
and that's certainly the case with Confessions, Usher's first record since 2001's 8701. The Atlanta singer's string of hits over the past decade have been decidedly under-18s rated, almost veering towards teen pop, but he's changed all that on this coproduced offering, which he claims is "the real him". It would be too simplistic to just brand this record a break-up record, chronicling his public split with TLC's Rozonda "Chili" Thomas; it is that, but so much more. It would be more accurate to call this Usher's coming-of-age record, bridging the gap from boy to man, as he navigates the emotional fallout from the disintegration of his relationship and the events that led up to it--real or imagined. But other than a guilty conscience, it seems unclear why Usher feels compelled to disgorge his secret life, as he documents his infidelities, transgressions and emotional perfidy in the album's prodigious 17 songs that range from insinuating sultry R&B grooves to the decidedly crunky "Yeah", which pairs an insistent keyboard romp with Lil' Jon's assertive beats and Ludacris' rather humid rhymes. This tracks shines all the more since it's the only club track, but you find yourself pining for more, since most of the other songs tend to get bogged down in his lush, feverish balladry. That's not a bad thing, but the disc would have been better served by a few more muscular tracks. --Jaan Uhelszki, Amazon.com

A very personal album from Usher and although the album has clean lyrics, I wouldn’t recommend children listening to the album. It is about a relationship which has just broken down over Ushers' infidelity. Usher confesses that he had an affair with another girl whom he believe he has got pregnant. The lyrical content of this album is great as Usher confronts the issues which many of us have experienced in relationships. This album is sensuous, conveying pure emotional lyrics in the most dire of situations. The very essence of the tragic circumstances is reiterated through out the album as he continuously apologises and reveals more layers to the story.
The original album ( and why I say this you will soon undestand) contains 17 tracks;
1.Intro 2.Yeah! 3.Throwback 4.Confessions 5.Confessions part II 6.Burn 7.Caught up 8.Superstar (interlude) 9.Superstar 10.Truth hurts 11.Simple things 13.Bad girl 14.That's what it's made for 15.Can U handle it? 16.Do it to me 17.Take your hand 18.Follow me
Most of the tracks are the slow like U got it bad and has a sound similar 8701. So if you want more party tunes like ‘Yeah’, you may be disappointed.
Priced around £9.99 (UK Sterling)- from play.com, I think that this album is value for money.
However as I was saying there is a reissued version of this albulm. With a variety of new tunes and bonus tracks on an extra CD- Is there a place for me and Throwback are but few of the veiations between the albums themselves. Also priced at £9.99- I think I would get both!

Confessions part 2 - I’m for ever dancing and singing to this song as its one my favorites! I must tell you that whatever he says in his songs aren’t true; although they based on something else (he just exaggerates)! it's all about him confessing about his girl on the side has become pregnant with his baby and he’s regretting everything and he’s found out that he’s now definitely lost his girl for good. Burn- This is another of ... ...all about him wanting a girl to send him a message or anything because he wants to be seduced by this girl.

Advantages: the kind of album you can listen to from beginning to end Disadvantages: only the cover could be better!!
...men can relate to his confessions given through his songs - as no doubt many will have commited one or two of these 'crimes' that they need to confess to! Plus females have heard these types of confessions before... except in this album Usher brings these confessions to music and makes them sound good and almost any of the confessions he sings about sound apologetic and you would forgive your man!!! it's great to weep along to the sounds of 'burn' ... ...dance about to tunes like 'yeah' the kind of track you and all your friends can bounce in the middle of a club - or the middle of your living room - to! All in all a fantastic album i'll purchase for all my friends if they haven't already bought it by christmas! ...

This album is by far the best and catchiest out of Usher's other albums. I, personally, really admire the fact that he's written about his own personal experiences because it takes a lot of guts to let people into your personal life like this. There's some really catchy dance-like songs, great chill out tracks, and one or two ballads. I'm quite a big fan of ballads, so for me the only thing that's missing is maybe a couple more ballads, but this ... ...also a slight comedy element to this album (from my perspective) because a number of songs are written about sex; one in particular ('That's what it's made for') is really obvious, so not one to play in front of parents or young children (trust me, in the case of children it raises far too many questions!) For me, one of Usher's talents in his writing is that his songs also appeal to people who wouldn't normally go for r 'n' b type music (like me). ...

...biggest hits of 2004 ( confessions part 2, yeah, and burn) and they are all different but equally as meaningful. Another great song that has not been released yet is superstar part 1 and 2. Reviews which might be of interest for "Confessions - Usher"
Advantages: Lots of big singles Disadvantages: A couple of the tunes are just average
"Confessions" is one of the most popular R&B albums ever, and has Usher on top of his game in 2004. This album when on to sell in excess of nine million worldwide, far outdoing anything which he had done prior to this. Unlike most in the UK, I was into Usher's music long before anything in this release, and actually preferred things from "My Way" and "8701" to his switch to Crunk & B, however this is when his big break came through.
1. "Intro"
2. "Yeah!"
This was the massive single off the album, and the one which estbalished Usher's position of the mega force in music, and not just one of the top performers in R&B. Here, after gaining the help of Hip Hop's Ludacris and the Atlanta producer, Lil' Jon, Ush is able to come with an amazing fusion, making Crunk & B, which Ciara did a little earlier, and was able to appeal to ...
Advantages: A great album to relax to, nice to hear someone tell the truth Disadvantages: Its Usher- could there possibly be any? Really?
*Check out my review about the concert!*
The smooth, soulful artist is back?Usher is one of the greatest artists. He released some excellent tracks such as ?U got it bad? and ?My Way?. Although the album has clean lyrics, I wouldn?t recommend children listening to the album as I believe like perhaps a lot of music today, it is about issues which perhaps children don?t necessarily need to be exposed to. But alternatively, it is great music and vocals.
This album is great. A very personal album from Usher, which as titled is his confessions after being unfaithful to Girlfriend TLC's "Chili". Usherconfesses that he had an affair with another girl whom he got pregnant. The lyrical content of this album is great as Usher confronts the issues which many of us have experienced in relationships.

Advantages: EVERY TRACK, VOCALS, MUSIC, Disadvantages: ??
/3 dancing tunes, with strong beats and no doubt made for usher to do his superb moves on the floor. But overall a serious album (confessions is what the album does) he confesses about things he might have experienced (might not be all his own).
right so YEAH, YEAH YEAH.........YEAH!( SORRY COULDNT HELP MYSELF!) is a great club banger, produced my Lll'jon, i really didnt like him to start with all he did was shout, but in this track i couldnt help but sing (shout) with him..and of course havin Ludacris spit some venom didnt hurt at all!
throwback is hot, great track that seems to fix the jigsaw with the pieces of ushers vocals perfectly. great up tempo track...the album starts out as a club banger.
Then superstar prob strongest song on album, due to vocals, its a slow tune...with usher playing a role as fan, to his girls.

This is an Enhanced CD, which contains both regular audio tracks and multimedia computer files. Personnel: Usher (vocals); Ludacris, Lil Jon (rap vocals); Thicke, Rich Harrison (various instruments); Bobby Ross Avila (guitar, piano, Wurlitzer piano, keyboards, Moog synthesizer, programming, vinyl scratches); Daniel Marino (guitar); James Wright (Wurlitzer piano, bass); Jimmy Jam (Fender Rhodes piano); Larry Cox, L-Roc (keyboards); LaMarquis Jefferson (bass); IZ (drums, percussion, vinyl scratches); Sean Garrett, Darcy Aldridge, Paula Patton (background vocals). Producers include: Just Blaze, Valdez Brantley, Jonathan "Lil Jon" Smith, Usher raymond, James Lackey. British edition includes two extra songs ("Confessions Part 1," and "Whatever I Want"). Usher has been a symbol of tender sexuality ever since he shifted from teenage sensation to soulful superstar. He's breathtakingly good at what he does; possessing that undefinable essence known to a select few soul crooners (Al Green, D'Angelo, etc.) who radiate sensuality through song, Usher has reached an apex on the sultry CONFESSIONS, his fifth studio album. After the obligatory intro, Lil Jon kicks in with his exhortations on the catchy, dance-floor-ready single "Yeah." Usher follows that up with the sublimely sweet "Throwback," a torch song with a fantastic Motown hook. On "Confessions Part II," he exposes his most vulnerable side when admitting to his lover that he's fathered a child with another woman. Exemplifying his versatility, Usher follows the standard pop ballad "Simple Things" with the guitar-riff-driven "Bad Girl," somewhere between 1970s funk and '80s Prince. CONFESSIONS is the sound of an R&B luminary at the top of his game.
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (4/15/04, p.151) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[Songs such as 'Yeah' create] sensual panic by combining Usher's jumpy attacks with [Lil Jon's] sublime, frayed beats." Rolling Stone (p.153) - Included in Rolling Stone's Top 50 Records Of 2004 - "[A] ballad-heavy blockbuster..." Entertainment Weekly (3/26/04, p.72) - "The vocalist reveals his new-found maturity by opening with the grittiest song he's ever done....The ensuing track glides smoothly between club-friendly hip-hop soul and ballads." - Grade: B+p Q (p.107) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[H]e's a fully grown R&B sensation....[With] addictive R&B hooks and all-dancin', all-lovin' subject matter boosted with hot production tweaks."
