Usher- Confessions Genre: Contemporary R&B Released-March 23, 2004 Label- Arista Executive Producers Usher Raymond and Antonio ‘LA’ Reid.
A very personal album from Usher, which as titled is his confessions after being unfaithful to Girlfriend TLC's Rozonda "Chili" Thomas in a very public split. This album is very r & b, very soulful, very vocal, it has great lyrics, its easy listening but most of the tracks are the slow tracks that are Usher (U remind me, U got it bad) so if you wanting more tunes like Yeah! You may be disappointed. My fave tracks by far have got to be Burn, it’s a typical Usher song, but the lyrics and the vocals in the song are great. Another great song of mine has got to be Caught Up, it’s a very catchy song, one that you could defiantly listen to, the lyrics are great and the beat is great as its not a really slow song. Most songs on this album are slow, there’s sexual songs, there’s not really any bad songs on the album, just ones that I wouldn’t listen to, this is mainly because the songs more about listening to the vocals then what the song is actually about. I cant really compare
this album to other Usher albums because I haven’t really heard his other albums, just the odd tracks, the album does show Usher more mature and having to deal with different and more complicated issues, like the breakup and a pregnancy of someone he doesn’t really love. Some people compare him to Justin Timberlake, which when listening to this album is not someone I would have compared him to, Justin’s music sounds a little bit more pop were this album is more r&b, but I have only heard the released Justin tracks.
Intro (30 secs) Usher telling us that that this album his about his confessions and that he is still strong.
Yeah! (4.08) Ok so you must have heard this song by now, and you may be getting sick of it because of the amount of times its played on TV and radio. But it’s a great tune with a great beat and a very catchy tune. It features a rap part from Ludacris (Stand Up, Rollout (My Business), Area Codes, 2 fast 2 furious) who’s part is very catchy and also an appearance by Lil John who actually produced this track.
Throwback Featuring Just Blaze. (4.01) A song about wanting only one chance to get back the person back that you love. I think this song is good, it has a great tune but some of the lyrics are to repeative.
Confessions (Interlude)
Confessions Part II (3.49) A big confession and personal song. A song about someone being unfaithful to his girlfriend and the person he’s being unfaithful with is pregnant and she’s keeping the baby, now he doesn’t know what he’s going to do. Very catchy tune, this song I like, it has great lyrics and a great little story behind the lyrics.
Burn (4.18) The second song released of the confession album an is by far the best track, slow song, great Usher song like ‘ U remind’ and You got it bad’. This song is about loving a person but you know that it’s better to leave it. Very vocal, great lyrics, a well done song and by far the best on the album.
Caught Up (3.44) This song is about liking someone and you don’t know why but they have a hold on you, a great tune, great lyrics, great as its a little faster then other songs, really stands out on this album.
Superstar (Interlude) (1.04) A little clip of the song Superstar.
Superstar (3.28) A song about someone that he likes is portrayed as a superstar and he’s the fan. A slow song, with a great tune, easy listening and great vocals from Usher.
Truth Hurts (3.51) This song is about a man who has been unfaithful to his girlfriend but he accusers his girlfriend of being unfaithful as it’s easy to blame the other person so when the other person confesses his situation then looks better. But the truth always comes out in the end. An easy listening song, very good tune, good vocals from Usher but I think the chorus is a bit to repeative towards the end of the song.
Simple Things (5.05) A great easy listening tune and great vocals from Usher on this song. It’s a song about people forgetting about the simple things in life and wanting all material possessions. The chorus is very catchy and has a great beat.
Bad Girl A great tune, very soulful, very vocal, slow sexual song, not that catchy lyrics but a catchy beat. Obviously this one is about wanting a bad girl.
That's what it's made for (4 37) Another sexual song, but its is catchy when you listen to it.
Can U Handle It? (5.45) Another very slow soulful song. Not the type of song I usually like. Another sexual song.
Do it to me (3.53) Very slow song, very different tune, great vocals, Ushers vocals stands out more then anything on this song. Very soulful song, very sexual song. This song shows Usher in different ways vocally. U’ve got the Usher were he sings really slow and high and then the Usher were he sings a little faster. Great mix of vocals but isn’t one of the best tracks on the albums as I think it’s slow and too slow for my liking and the lyrics don’t stand out.
Take Your Hand (3.03) I don’t know why but the beginning of this tune reminds me of Beyonce and then later on Justin Timberlake with the vocals. Most probably as song that won’t sing along to because it is very vocal, shows of Ushers vocal talents defiantly, but it has a great little tune. Finding out what this song is about is actually more difficult then the rest.
Follow me (3.31) Great bouncy beat but still a slow song. Great vocal song.
