I love British comedies and I also love weddings so when the film confetti came out and it was British and about people trying to come up with the most original wedding, the film sounded right up my street. We rented it and although I found the film quite entertaining I didn't think it was as good as it could have been or as good as I expected hence the three stars. My sister and fiancé did not think much of it at all but here is why I will recommend it to you all at a push.

-----

The Film:

A TV station decides to run a documentary involving three couples to see who can come up with the most original wedding of the year. The winners will win a house and all three couples will get their weddings broadcast on TV. Jimmy Carr heads up the show called Confetti and decides that the three couples will be naturists, tennis players and musical enthusiasts.

Sam and Matt are the musical pair who instantly become the judges favourites to win. They are a sweet couple who are so in love and just want their own house so they can stop living at her Moms house. Josef and Isabelle are tennis players who are extremely competitive and are worrying more about winning than actually getting married. Michael and Joanna are naturists who come under fire when they are told they cannot have a nude wedding which they are extremely fed up about.

What follows is a funny insight into all of these couples's lives and also what people will do to win even when it is their wedding at stake too.

Verdict on the Story:

The concept of the film is fantastic and extremely good because your wedding is one of those things that you get nervous about anyway and want to have gone perfectly well and for everybody to have a nice time. Add to the fact that you get married in front of millions and also that there is a huge expensive prize at stake then this is a good story of what and how far people are willing to go to win.

The story itself is great and plays out well throughout the film although it is a mite predictable but for this kind of film I did sort of expect it. I think the problem falls is that there are not as many laughs in it as you would expect from watching the trailers and many times the jokes just do not seem funny at al but rather forced. I found parts of the film hilarious but then others I thought were unnecessary.

Confetti was marketed as a true comedy and although it is about 80% of the way through there are some quite touching moments which although I rather enjoyed I do think they spoil the actual atmosphere of the film which is a shame. Overall though I think the story is great and a lot of fun.

Cast and Characters:

Martin Freeman - Matt
Jessica Stevenson - Sam
Robert Webb - Michael
Jimmy Carr - Antoni
Olivia Colman - Joanna
Stephen Mangan - Josef
Meredith MacNeill - Isabelle
Vincent Franklin - Archie
Jason Watkins - Gregory

Verdict on the Cast and Characters:

The cast is absolutely fantastic with one of my favourites Martin Freeman in the leading role. I always love Freeman as I think he pulls of loveable cute very well and he does well to portray his character here. Jimmy Carr is how you expect him to be which is basically a sarcastic git which is good. I am going to commend Olivia Coleman and Robert Webb though for spending most of the film absolutely naked as they were funny and I think extremely good sports for doing the film. All of the cast though were great and brilliant actors.

The characters themselves I think are great part from the tennis couple as you do not really get a glimpse into their world too much and I know that the point of the film is to focus mostly on the musical couple but I think they could have done with a bit more development. My favourite people though were the wedding planners Archie and Gregory who I thought were great and very funny. I would say that characters in this film are memorable as they are al quite loveable and it is a very sweet film.

Special Features:

Well there are three featurettes rather imaginatively titled four weeks to go, two weeks to go and one week to go. They are actually quite good and last for about 20 minutes each which is quite good and they are quite enjoyable. They are all very similar though just giving you a slight insight into what the film was like to make and what the cast are like to work with. Worth watching though.

There are three alternative endings on the DVD which I obviously can't tell you much about because you may not have watched the film but they are very interesting to watch. I even preferred one of the endings to the actual one they chose.

Verdict:

Well I enjoyed Confetti and I thought it was a good insight into how mad people are just before they get married and also how far people are willing to go to win a house. It is funny and I did enjoy it even with two other people telling me they were bored most of the way through watching it. I thought the comedy in it is quite obvious which is ok but it did have some clever jokes thrown into the mix which I enjoyed.

The cast is the best thing about this film as they are truly wonderful and because they are all well known it is quite funny to see them all together. I will warn you that the naturists do get naked so yes you do see Robert Webbs' private parts. I was quite shocked but to be fair to him he has a nice little body so it is not that bad. It is purely for the nudity reason that this film is a 15 and some mild swearing so just beware.

Bad things I can say about this film are very few but they did make a difference into how much I actually enjoyed it. The first is that it is way too long and this is because many of the scenes were simply un-needed and a bit boring. The film lost its atmosphere at parts because of this which is a real shame. The second is that the film could have been a lot funnier and although I thought it was quite clever to give it a documentary type feel it still didn't feel like a documentary if that makes sense. There were no back stories at all and some of the characters were just introduced at random which was a bit strange.

In conclusion I am going to give this film three stars because although I really enjoyed it and thought the film was touching and funny and the cast was great, I can't help thinking that they rushed making the film and if they had just thought a little more into it it could have been so much funnier and better. All in all though I found it great and I would give it four stars but because of the fact I think it is marketed at very few people I am going to give it three.

Thanks for reading.
