Hi this is going to be one of many proposed reviews on my Bob Marley collection...

Bob Marley And The Wailers Confrontation

Label: Island/Tuff Gong

Year of release: 23 May 1983 (after Bob's death)

Originally recorded in Tuff Gong studios in Kingston.

Front Cover: The picture on the front cover is depicted from an old ethipiopian battle (Adowa) between Italy in 1896 where the ethiopains beat the Italians out of the sacred father land. The picture represents Bob Marley fighting evil or "slaying the dragon" the inside sleeve shows a painting of the actual battle itself.

Now this album conflicts with itself slightly as before looking or knowing the tracks on the album you would expect a tougher more political album similar to survival. However it is quite the opposite. A bouncy roots reggae album with some relatively unknown tracks that make this album a must for any Marley fan..

Ok the songs:

1.Chant Down Babylon: this song is a suprisingly upbeat tune giving a message to the Babylon that the people are united and the corrupt system is not strong within.

2.Buffalo Soldier: according to my biography these were a unit of african slaves used to fight the indians in America to get rid of them to make way for rich white men to take control of all of America.

3.Jump Nyahbinghi: I wish I could tell you about this song as it is one of the best songs on the album second only to Rastaman Live Up, a very bouncy happy reggae tune.

4.Mix Up, Mix Up: This is quite an early release, not a bad track but again I am not sure as to what this song is about.

5.Give Thanks And Praise: Later to be incorporated into the famous song One Love.

6.Blackman Redemption: Bob urges all rastafarians to spread the word of Haile Salassie and not to worry as rasta is great.

7.Trench Town: Like other hits Trench Town Rock and concrete jungle Bob speaks of the challenges and poverty in Jamaica.

8.Stiff Necked Fools: This is a dig at the upper class politicians in Jamaica who pass laws about life issues they know nothing about (Ganja)

9.I Know: Jah will help the depressed, and be there to lift you up when life it gets too much.

10.Rastaman Live Up: Best song on the album, this is a chirpy be happy reggae tune with no political messages but telling Bongo men and Congo men to chill out.

11.Redemption Song: A slightly different version of Redemption song, this has a lot of woo wooing going on and is also very extended. This track isnt featured in the original.

So there is my best insight into every track on the album, I know this is a long review but for anyone who likes Bob Marley will no doubt appreciate this review (i hope).

The album itself is approximately 38 minutes long, I bought it from Amazon like most of my collection and only paid £4.00 so it is a real bargain.

Again I would definately recommend you buy this album and have a good chill out.
