Advantages: Good cast Disadvantages: Some tedious singing
within a film? structure, this adaptation of the book "Be Cool" is, on the other hand, a more straightforward picture.
Chili has grown tired of making films and decides to become involved in the music industry. He works with record label owner Edie Athens (Uma Thurman) whose partner Tommy (James Woods) has been murdered and tries to launch teenage singing sensation Linda Moon (Christina Milian). He?s also squabbling with the Russian mafia, his music-industry business rival Nick Carr (Harvey Keitel) and the rap group that he owes money to. The rap group are headed by Sin La Salle and Dabu (Cedric The Entertainer and Andre 3000).
Danny Devito makes a quick appearance as Martin Weir, Vince Vaughn is fascinating as Raji, a white man who thinks he?s black and The Rock is hilarious as gay bodyguard Elliot, who is desperate to have a film ...

Advantages: It's a lot of fun Disadvantages: Predictable Disney fare
I've never really been a fan of Winter sports, so the entry of a Jamaican bobsleigh team into the 1988 Winter Olympics in Calgary pretty much passed me by. What I am a fan of, however, is a decent comedy film, so the release of "Cool Runnings", supposedly based on the story of the Jamaican Bobsleigh team, was unlikely to do the same.
Sanka Coffie is the best pushcart driver on Jamaica, just about to win his 7th pushcart derby in a row. His best friend is Derice Bannock, who is about to win his place in Jamaica's 1988 Olympic team to compete in the 100 metres and follow in the footsteps of his father, who had won a gold medal in the 200 metres some years before. Unfortunately, the trials don't turn out quite the way he'd expected.
In a desperate effort to represent Jamaica, Derice turns to Irv Blitzer, a former Olympic bobsleigh ...
Advantages: Loads of great material, Consistently great album Disadvantages: Many wont give it the time of day
First thing I have to say - great album, terrible name! That's right, yet again the band have produced an absolutely phenomenal album of Punk Rock glory. The Descendents have always made fine, fine music and of course this album is no exception - catchy Punk Rock anthems make this band special and that's why we all have a special place in our hearts for them. Seriously, this band are at the top of their game at what they do and because of this very fact, every release with them is really something special.
With new album 'Cool To Be You' we see the band crack out 14 more cracking Punk Rock anthems which are set to put a smile on the faces of Punks across the world. The spectacle wearing front man is idolised the world over for his awesome, unique vocal stylings and it really does bring great enjoyment to me to know that he is still ...

Personnel: Bennie Man, Firehouse Crew, Danny Brownie, Steely & Clevie, Tony & Dave Kelly. Recorded at Penthouse Recording Studio, Kingston, Jamaica. When an artist explodes into super star status, it's often a good thing to take a step back and see what he put out before hitting the big time. Beenie Man (born Moses Davis) has been recording since he was eight years old, and certainly had enough time to practice by the time this 1992 set was released (he was in his late teens at the time it came out). COOL COOL RIDER is a typical early '90s ragga album with the exception of one thing: the presence of true talent. Though nothing on the disc is as compelling as Beenie Man's output of the mid to late '90s, there are certainly signs of genius present. "Tek Him Money," a parody of Cobra's immensely popular hit "Tek Him," demonstrated the youth's bold fearlessness of lyrical retaliation (a helpful trait as stiff competition from his nemesis Bounty Killer was soon to follow). Bad boy lyrics rule the disc as this was released years prior to Beenie's spiritual awakening. Tracks like "Cool Cool Rider" and "Ghetto Youths" are still enjoyable despite the racy subject matter. A genuine diamond in the rough, COOL COOL RIDER is super star-in-training material.
Album Reviews
Q (p.134) - 3 stars out of 5 - "[I]t's pretty hardcore stuff, for the most part a minimal combination of booming bass, cracking off-centre rhythms and gravel-voiced patois." Mojo (Publisher) (p.126) - 3 stars out of 5 - "Highpoints on this best-of of sorts comes in the form of the sincere conscious raga anthems 'Three Against War' and 'Black Liberty'....And contrasting tender love songs."
