Advantages: Great Voice and Persona Disadvantages: Rarely heard now in Mainstream
It's rather unfortunate that Bob Marley was taken on by Island Records as I'm sure that history would have consigned Bob and the Wailers to the voluminous dustbin of Jamaican music had it been otherwise. As it is, many great reggae singers have missed their chance and drifted into obscurity, overshadowed by Chris Blackwell's creation, Bob Marley.
One Jamaican artist that has all but 'disappeared' is GregoryIsaacs, 'TheCoolRuler', a man who refused to bow to the major labels and started his own studio at The African Museum Shop in Kingston. Isaacs cut his first record at a Kingston studio in the late1960s aged around 18.
This singer, with his rich, crooning voice was to make a big name for himself in Jamaica, the UK and even the US when the heavy Rockers Reggae gave way to the more sensual Lovers Rock towards the end of the 1970 ...

Advantages: Beautifully restored versions of the greatest Holmes and Watson of all time Disadvantages: None a single one
The Definitivecollection of arguably the best Holmes and Watson: Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce can only be greeted with joy, which is just how it was treated by me when it arrived in the post. Containing all fourteen films in the series that began in 1939 with The Hound of the Baskervilles and culminating with the rather melodramatically titled Dressed to Kill in 1946.
For those not conversant with the Rathbone/Bruce Sherlock Holmes films, they began as almost A-movies for Twentieth Century Fox first in Hound and then The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. At this point Fox decided not to film any further adventures but Universal, ever desiring to put together B-movie series, which might draw in audiences, negotiated with Conan Doyle's estate to gain the rights. Successfully so, they brought back Rathbone, as an angular, slightly ...
Forward the Foundation - Isaac Asimov
A few facts before this review starts,
This is the Seventh and final book in the foundation series. Understandable really as Isaac Asimov died just 2 weeks after completing the book in April 1992.
It is widely accepted that Asimov regarded Hari Seldon as his alter ego and in this book Hari..... Well you'll have to read it.
The book follows the decline of the Empire and the coming to fruition of Hari Seldons great plans and works. Mixed in are flash back to Haris? earlier days, which are used to fill in many missing parts of Haris? earlier life and some of the crisis moments of the Seldon plan.
You are shown the clash between Hari and Cleon II, Emperor of the known Universe. But more importantly the manoeuvres between Hari and Cleons adviser, Eto Demerzel ...

Album Notes
Personnel includes: Gregory Isaacs (vocals); Ranchie, Bingy Bunny, Chinna (guitar); Bobby Ellis, Tommy McCook, Herman Marquis (horns); Ansell Collins (keyboards); Robert Shakespeare, Ernest Wilson (bass); Sly Dunbar (drums); The Heptones (background vocals). All tracks have been digitally remastered. In 1978, reggae vocalist Gregory Isaacs released COOL RULER, a title that also served as the performer's nickname. Although the album, unlike some of his earlier '70s offerings, didn't prove to be an international success, it received critical acclaim and became recognized as one of Isaacs's finest records. After hearing this solid 10-song set, it's easy to understand why the disc is so revered. For one thing, Isaacs's distinctively smooth vocals are backed by pitch-perfect contributions from a cadre of top-notch session players, including bassist Robbie Shakespeare and drummer Sly Dunbar. The percolating rhythms and buoyant melodies are ideal for Isaacs's lover's-rock style, but rather than stick to a predominantly romantic mood (a la LOVE IS OVERDUE), he mixes in a refreshing amount of social commentary on tracks such as the shuffling "Party in the Slum" and the rural lament "Word of the Farmer." The result is an album that makes a wonderfully like-minded companion piece to another classic record from that year--Bob Marley & the Wailers' KAYA.
