Fans of The B-52s will probably really like this album, much better than Bouncing Off the Satellites. Although I still really like this band. This album is a return their earlier style (before Ricky Wilson died).

most unfortunate casualties caught inside the blast radius were the B-52's. Just two years previously they had released their very first mainstream breakthrough album,Cosmic Thing. This album was featherweight, sun- kissed, playfully pansexual and, most importantly, danceable. Tracks like "Love Shack" and "Roam" reminded us there could be fun without responsibility. Alternately kitschy and lazy (some still insist that "Deadbeat Club" was a slacker anthem long before Beck's "Loser"),Cosmic Thingtook the B-52's signature Trekkie-camp sensibility and slowed it down just enough to click on MTV and portable radio wonderfully. And let's be honest, anyway: would you rather road-trip to Kurt's sad refrain of "Well, whatever, nevermind" or Fred Schneider belting out "The whole shack shimmies!!" at the top of his lungs? (On second thought, don't answer that.) --Todd Levin

Advantages: Better than Bouncing Off Satellites. Boppy and updeat. Disadvantages: Nothing new in this album, same silly lyrics and plastic sounding tracks. Irritating at best.

I will admit that their sound is a tiny bit more updated in this album but it still isnt really anything special in my opinion. I will say that it is very up-beat and boppy (which is something fans probably really like about this band). But I have to say that I found the electric synthesizer 'twangy' sound really annoying and a constant back ground reiteration of the lyrics is also really irritating. Although I think that Cindy Wilson's vocals can be really lovely at times, in some of the songs they are a bit whiny and aggravating.
The lyrics are not much more developed than the hay-day of Love Shack (a tune I actually do like of theirs-who doesnt). But in their defence I think the band does aim for frivelous lyrics, so I guess I cant critisize them for this too much.
If you are a fan of this band then I honestly think you will love this album but if you have never heard of them, then consider yourself lucky and honestly dont waste your time/money on this album.
Summary: I think kids and people who like Aqua will like this band/album. For the rest of you-steer clear!
Advantages: its good Disadvantages: its still good
two words-Love Shack. This B52s album features that perrenial disco classic that is the awesomely fantastic (particularly when drunk) Love Shack.Alongside this the albums quality doesnt diminish.Fred Schneiders weird vocal styles mixes up with the bird singers and the new wave/pop/disco sound to great effect.
other stand outs on this include Roam,Channel Z,Deadbeat Club.aaaahh-theyre all good tunes. Its not cool or clever to like the B52s but this ...

...track on their 1989 album, Cosmic Thing.
By now the outfit was a four piece, with Kate Pierson, Fred Schneider, Keith Strickland and Cindy Wilson and producing duties were shared between Nile Rogers (formerly of Chic) and Don Was (of the enigmatic duo Was Not Was). This was the Athens band at their good time best, partying on but still based on their original sound.
It’s probably worth getting the album for Love Shack alone and I don’t know anyone ...

Advantages: Original Disadvantages: simmilar to other work
Cosmic thing the, track is the main reason why I brought this album, the track is structured so well the way the synthesisers in the song are used express the real feel of the songs mood and atmosphere.
Almost everything is synthesised, Pop music lovers will truly enjoy this track of the album and will continue to enjoy long after purchase. However cosmic thing the track is similar to all the other tracks on the album. They follow the same style ...

Album Notes
The B-52s: Keith Strickland, Kate Pierson (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Fred Schneider (vocals, percussion); Cindy Wilson (vocals). Additional personnel: Nile Rodgers (guitar); Tommy Mandell, Philippe Saisse, Richard Hilton (keyboards); Sara Lee (bass, background vocals); Steve Ferrone, Sonny Emory, Charlie Drayton, Leroy Clouden (drums). The Uptown Horns: Chris Cioe, Paul Literal, Arno Hecht, Bob Funk, Carl Beatty. 1986's BOUNCING OFF THE SATELLITES found the B-52s in the throes of mourning (they'd lost guitarist Ricky Wilson). But they returned in 1989 with COSMIC THING, a corker that set up the band for '90s success. This is a glorious party of a collection and an album that should stand up to time and scrutiny. The B-52s benefit from the production of Nile Rodgers and Don Was. Numerous guest musicians, including ubiquitous bassist Sara Lee, only add to the fullness of this release. The southern swank of "Dry Country" marks the first B-52s song to pay homage to the band's Georgia roots. Cindy Wilson and Kate Pierson feature heavily on the comely slacker anthem "Deadbeat Club". COSMIC THING's big hit, the fantastic "Love Shack," compels listeners to perform embarrassing and involuntary dance moves. But the album's true highlight is "Roam," a Wilson showcase with a lovely a cappella choir intro, a driving beat, and infectious handclaps. And don't miss the harmonies on "Bushfire" and "Topaz" or the quirky cable TV-themed "Channel Z." "Follow Your Bliss," as one song suggests, and add the indispensable COSMIC THING to your collection.
