There's nothing terribly complicated about the Fratellis' debut album,Costello Music, but ... more
that's by no means a criticism. Rather than inject their songs with complex chords, or steep their lyrics with their political and social agendas, this Glasgow trio have instead focussed on writing 13 songs that are pure, unabashed entertainment. And it's a pace--and an attitude--that doesn't let up, from the jumpy opening bars of "Henrietta" to the groupie-reminiscing of "Ole Black'n'Blue Eyes". In many ways,Costello Musicsounds like a return to the hedonistic rush of early 1990's Britpop, with it's exhilarating guitar riffs and arrogant swagger--"Chelsea Dagger" somehow applies the attitude of early Oasis to the pop catchiness ofGreat Escape-era Blur. But the Fratellis also know their history: the ska-punk of "Cuntry Boys&City Girls" and "For the Girl" has the Fratellis sounding like the cheeky offspring of the Clash, or a less-irritating Madness. But all this analysis kind of misses the point ofCostello Music: this is music for dancing, not for contemplation. It's loud, fast and in-your-face, exactly what you'd expect from three young men with guitars.--Ted Kord

Quick review of Costello Music - Fratellis (The)
One of the best albums released recently. There is not one track on the album which is not worth listening to and each track would merit release as a single. A must have album for anyones collection. ...

Advantages: catchiest album I've heard in a long time Disadvantages: their sound isnt really anything new
First of all a warning, you will find yourself humming the tunes on this album for a long time to come.
1 Henrietta - heavy guitar based song, very catchy, you'll recognise it from the radio.
2. Flathead - a slightly repeptitive verse with an anthemic ba da ba ba da ba ba ba type chorus, slight ska influences on this one.
3. Cuntry Boys and City Girls (sic), sounds a bit libertine-esque, a real rocker
4. Whistle for the choir - the calm after ... ...feature in this album)
5. Chelsea Dagger - you've heard it, even if you don't know you've heard it you probably have, the big single from the album with another big singalong chorus
6. For the Girl, nice stone roses pun here, "she was into the Stones, when I was into the Roses" obviously namechecking some of their influences. There ends the first half of the album, the big singles and singalongs half.
7. Dog in a Bag, probably the filler track ...

Advantages: Great fun sign-along-but-still-look-cool music Disadvantages: Not much depth, short album
...12 year old then you should get Costello music. It has a lot of filler in there songs with a lot of "lalalala"s and "He said-she said-you said"s.
In short a very fun album, I love it but it is not the most thought provoking album out there. ...

got this cd and dvd and its brilliant. if you can get your hands on it and youve been to the concerts then the dvd is a great reminder of what they performed like. better value for money buying the dvd and cd, the dvd is live at the ABC in Glagsow and the cd is just there album not live. brilliant tunes and a brilliant group altogether. as the group have only really came on the scene in the past year this album is great tribute to the fans who have followed them from the start. it also has henrietta and creeping up the backstairs on the video that has been shown on the music channels.
would highly recommend this pack if you can get it, it is also a limited edition. i purchased this at £8.99 this was from HMV online. There first relase creepin up the backstairs is on it, with henrieatta and chelsea dagger, also with there new ...
Advantages: lively and loud, perfect to rock out to. Disadvantages: when not in the mood, can cause headaches.
'Here We Stand' is the second album from the glasgow based rock band 'TheFratellis'
This new album comes after the success of the debut album 'CostelloMusic' A hit with most teenagers around the country, with lots of shouting and lively tracks. The new album contains all of that found in its predecessor, with whittier lyrics and some calmer tracks. The likes of 'Mistress Mable' and 'shameless' will, like the old album, provoke drunken football fans to sing along.
Released around the same times as new albums from the kooks, the zutons and the feeling. All of which appeal to the same audience, i have all of them, and this new album from the Scottish trio comes a close second to the kooks, some good tracks, improving on the debut album. perfect for anyone to sing along and shout at the top of your voice. definitely worth my £9. ...
Advantages: An excellent debut album Disadvantages: Disadvantages?!
Born and bread in Scotland, The Fratellis are proving to the world that there?s reason to get excited about the world of rock n? roll at the moment with their debut outing ?CostelloMusic?
Personally, the Arctic Monkeys are the best ?new? band I?ve heard in the past eighteen months?theFratellis however must come a very respectable second. With my constant deploring on ?NME-esque? bands, the Fratellis offer up something different to the norm. Jumpy, exciting, addictive music.
After originally releasing it about a year ago, ?Chelsea Dagger? would be most people?s first taste of the band, and many would have been caught almost unaware of chanting the chorus in their head back and forth and tapping their feet to the rhythm for the rest of the day after having heard it on the TV or radio. That song set their benchmark and after ...

Album Notes
On their energetic and assured full-length debut, COSTELLO MUSIC, the Fratellis offer up a charmingly mischievous set of guitar-driven Britpop. Like rowdier cousins of the Kooks, these Scottish lads clearly look for inspiration to 1970s glam icons such as Marc Bolan and David Bowie (see the hard-charging, T. Rex-like "Flathead" and the stomping "Chelsea Dagger"), but they also indulge in whimsical Beatlesque ditties (most notably the lighthearted "Vince the Lovable Stoner"), proving that they're not tethered to one particular approach. COSTELLO MUSIC is the perfect soundtrack for a night of pub-crawling.
