First of all a warning, you will find yourself humming the tunes on this album for a long time to come.
1 Henrietta - heavy guitar based song, very catchy, you'll recognise it from the radio.
2. Flathead - a slightly repeptitive verse with an anthemic ba da ba ba da ba ba ba type chorus, slight ska influences on this one.
3. Cuntry Boys and City Girls (sic), sounds a bit libertine-esque, a real rocker
4. Whistle for the choir - the calm after the storm, another big singalong chorus (which really are a feature in this album)
5. Chelsea Dagger - you've heard it, even if you don't know you've heard it you probably have, the big single from the album with another big singalong chorus
6. For the Girl, nice stone roses pun here, "she was into the Stones, when I was into the Roses" obviously namechecking some of their influences. There ends the first half of the album, the big singles and singalongs half.
7. Dog in a Bag, probably the filler track on the album, still a sound song mind,
8. Creeping up the backstairs - the funkiest on the album, more of the same really.
9. Vince the loveable stoner, starts mellow gradually building into another big chorus.
10 Everybody knows you cried last night - my favourite song on the album.
11 Baby Fratelli - oh no another of those songs you've heard somewhere but don't know where. the guitar rift in this reminds me of a sped up smells like teen spirit.
12 Old Black and Blue Eyes the calm down song at the end of the album, a fitting closer.
Overall a very catchy album, okay so its nothing new, borrowing from britpop, glam and rock here and there, with a very 'current british indie band' sound to it. The lyrics can sometimes be simplistic, there is no real emotional depth to it, and the chorus are often just tra la la la affairs, but BOY is it catchy, one of those albums that you know off by heart by one or two listens, Buy it you won't be disappointed, for sheer singalong value!
