Hope comes when European fan Tiziana, offers to manage them through "love and passion" and they embark on a European tour full of excitement only to play to a mere handful of people in some of the venues. They make no money from it and your heart just sinks for them. Returning to Canada dejected but determined to not give up, they contact an English producer Chris Tsangarides who throws them a lifeline when he agrees to produce their new CD - This is Thirteen. ...mutter the inevitable...'what ever happened to you guys?, that surely what will be written on their gravestones, Spike Milligan style, this film and not their records their unfortunate but worthy legacy of rocks finest nearly men. This project has certainly done them a lot of good. On June 9, it was announced that Anvil will open for AC/DC at their first two summer Black Ice World Tour shows in North American at the end of July. ...As Bands-In-Crisis documentaries go, Sam Jones' 2002 film focusing on Wilco at the most turbulent and creatively-fertile period in their career thus far is much closer to Micahel Lindsey-Hogg's 1970 Let It Be than, for example, Berlinger & Sinofsky's 2004 Some Kind Of Monster. Like the Beatles' picture, it is an essential, stunningly-made film but one that, in contrast to the insanely-entertaining Metallica feature, is unlikely to work for anyone uninterested in the band under consideration. If one does find oneself drawn to Jeff Tweedy and Co.'s blinding, genre-shredding prog-Americana, though (and really - why wouldn't you?), then I Am Trying To Break Your Heart is as engrossing a couple hours as can be found outside of, say, a couple spins of Yankee Hotel Foxtrot, the making of which provides the core of the film.
