Pantera! An amazing metal band from Southern America, boasting the legandary DimeBag Darrell (R.I.P) on guitar! The sheer musical genius of this man is unbelievable. This album has most of the bands best works, and most memorable songs!

Cowboys From Hell (4.07) This is a classic pantera song, starting off with the repeating open E string, Dimebag plays a lead over the top. The classic pantera rhythm smashes in, with Dimebag's amazing tone giving the band a unique sound. The singing here is amazing, I really like this singer and this song really does him justice. The solo fits in perfectly, with Dimebag showing off his fine skills with the solo, and the harmonic drenched interlude wich follow's.
Rating: 10/10

Primal Concrete Sledge (2.13) This main riff is really heavy, with Dimebag playin a simple but effective piece. The drums are repetative double-bass wich fit perfect with the guitar riff's. The singing here isnt as good but it doesnt ruin the song. Dimebag then plays a lead/rhythm piece wich is very well composed and gives a nice twist. This song is one of the shortest at just 2.13, and would have been better if it was longer.
Rating: 8/10

Psycho Holiday (5.19) The intro here is strange, some repeating banging noise? Anyway moving on, Dimebag starts this one off with another trademark riff, heavy to start with and then sticking some lead in with it. I really like Dimebags guitar style on this album, and this riff is one of his best. The singing is back to it's best on this track, and sound's really good with the low rhythm behind his voice. The solo is twisted and uses whammy as is Dimebags trademark, probably not one of his best, yet still an impressive one.
Rating: 9/10

Heresy (4.46) The opening riff here is quite funky and uses harmonics, and may remind some of system of a down's 'science', or 'suite pee'. Then the heavier version of the riff is played, wich start's off the drums and bass. The singing here fits the music well, but there are some part's where the singer uses a lot of high pitched notes wich I dont like much. I liked the interlude here, where the whole song slowed down, and Dimebags kicks in with a nice solo, probably the best bit of the song.
Rating: 9/10

Cemetary Gates (7.02) This is an absolute classic song, Pantera's answer to Metallica's 'One'. In my opinion this song is just as good if not better! The acoustic guitar played gives a nice tone and the riff is perfect. The light solo played on top of that is just amazing, and show's Dimebags amazing music writing skills. The singing here is amazing! You would never have guessed he could sing this well, and he really blows you away! The heavy riff wich Dimebag has written is absolutley amazing, with some classy pinch harmonics inserted here and there, The singer's change from singing to screaming is well done and really sum this song up-a masterpiece!
Rating: 10/10

Domination (5.03) This is definatley one of my favorites on the album, the opening thrashy riff is amazing, giving a really heavy feel to the song. The drumming here is probably my favorite on the labum, some nice fills and rhythms to accompany the different time changes and various riff's played. The singing is again amazing, and I liked the lyrics to this song, very well written. The solo here is by far my favorite on the album! Induced with wah, whammy and god knows what else! It really show's off Dimebags talent at speedy playing.
Rating: 10/10

Shattered (3.21) This is a really old school heavy song! An amazing riff played, and amazing drumming! This song will definatley remind you of Guns N Roses because the singer prefers a high pitched singing in this one! I didnt really like the singing and thought the song could have benefitted more if he sang a more audible pitch! The solo to this was amazing, really bluesy and had that AC/DC feel to it! The guitar and drumming to this track are amazing, but the singing let it down for me!
Rating: 7/10

Clash With Reality (5.16) Another classy rhythm piece by Dimebag here, and some nice drumming at parts also. Dimebag's switching between low and high notes is very well done and something I enjoyed listening to. The singing isnt at it's best here either, but an improvement on the last song! This song remind's me of Pantera's older stuff, where they played more glam-rock music instead of the heavy stuff they played later in their career's.
Rating: 8/10

Medicine Man (5.14) A nice slow drum n bass intro, and then Dimebag come's in with a slow pulverising riff, giving the song a very heavy feel. Later on he play's a little solo piece wich is very impressive. I didnt enjoy the verse's on this song, just singing and a slow drum beat, but once the guitar kicks in it all get's better! The verse's just seem to be keeping this legendary guitarist on a leesh! He plays another nice solo here, based around the main riff, and using his legato technique very well.
Rating: 7/10

Message In Blood (5.10) By the end of this album all the song's begin to sound somewhat the same. This song really didnt have anything that stoof out for me. The singing and verse's were dull and unimaginative. There's some nice guitar work again, but I didnt really like the whole feel of this song.
Rating: 6/10

The Sleep (5.46) There's a really good acoustic piece to start this one off, then Dimebag hit's down on his distortion and another ten ton heavy riff pound's in. Again the singing let's the song down a bit here, but every other band member performs brilliantly, with perfect bass, guitar and drums. The solo here sound's very twisted and quite Steve Vai.
Rating: 8/10

The Art Of Shredding (4.20) This has one funky intro! I loved the drum and bass intro, and the guitar's weird effect played. The main riff is a very good one also, with some nice alternate picking and chords played. There's a number of time changes in this song and just show how well the band perform together. The singing is back to it's best here, wich improves the song tenfold! By the end of teh song Dimebag has his way and has a magnificent solo, and plays some very good interlude's!
Rating: 9/10

This album isnt Pantera at it's best, but it has many a classic and well known song on here. Cemetary Gates, Cowboys From Hell and Domination probably being the best.

Very good review! Pantera is my life and I feel you did a really good job of explaining each song to the fullest. Although I have to say you seem more of a Dime fan than a Pantera fan :oP The 'singer' you refer to is called Phil Anselmo, and he is lead in 2 other bands that are still around now, they are called 'Down' and 'Superjoint Ritual', which if you havn't already, I recommend you give them a listen (especially Down, the more chilled of the two). The drummers name is Vinnie Paul, and he's Dime's brother (he had to sit there and watch his brother die, my heart goes out to him). And there's no mention of Rex here, tut tut :oP I guess I'll forgive you, because I loved Dimebag too, he meant more to me than the rest of the band, and he still lives on in a lot of us :o) So, other than the lack of names of other band members, I rate your review exceptional, it's very discriptive and helpful to those who are considering giving Pantera a go for the first time. Cat x
