Full review

When I first saw the bon jovi cross road cd i was about 7 years old and thought it was just any other cd lying around my brothers bedroom. I never listened to it until I was about 13 or 14. However, once I realised what it was I was listening to I played it countless times since! It has their smash hit number 1 ''Livin' on a Prayer'' which almost anyone on the street would recognise if you were to play it on a duke box in any pub across the country. It also has another big ballad of theirs ''Wanted dead or Alive''. This has one of the most famous introductions and is one of my personal favourite riffs of all time. Its easy to play yes, but it sounds great! It almost sounds like two cowboys in the west are going out back to back to have a duel to decide over something quite serious.

Here is a brief description of each song on the album.

1. ''Livin' on a Prayer'' I don't really need to say much about this as its records and figures tell the story. It was recorded in 1986 and released in 1987. Its a rock/pop ballad and stayed at number one for 4 weeks. Its an extremelely uplifting song. The best part of the song for me is when they start the last chorus, they play it in a slightly different note to the rest of the song which really gets the hairs on your neck to stand.

2. ''Keep the Faith'' isn't one of their most famous songs but is well known across the states. After listening to the song a few times I found it started to have a similar affect as livin' on a prayer. Its a typical bon jovi style song with great guitaring, drums and vocals. another uplifting track.

3. ''Someday I'll be Saturday night'' Has a soothing acoustic introduction and melody throughout the whole song. Its about a young boy who is describing patterns in his life saying he will grind the the bad times and wait until the good ones come. ''tuesday just might go my way, cant get worse than yesterday, thursday friday aint been kind'' then when saturday night arrives (the good times) he'll be alot better. Hense the title ''someday il be saturday night.''

4. ''Always'' is another one of bon jovi's greatest hits selling over 4 million copies. It was originally written to be a soundtrack to the film 'Romeo is bleeding' but after the band saw the movie they decided not to lend the song to producers. Its a love ballad about how a man is deeply in love with a women but she doesn't feel the same way about him. A great love ballad that will be played for many years to come.

5. ''Wanted Dead or Alive'' is one of my most favourite songs of all time. I really enjoy playing this song. It sounds like a western hill billy song and gets a crowd roaring. It has a main electric-acoustic riff which is played throughout the song, starting and finishing it. There is a solo after the 2nd verse which will again get the hairs on your neck to stand. due to its popularity, jon bon jovi declares this song as their national anthem of rock concerts.

6. ''Lay your hands on me'' has a strong drjm and base introduction, with unique guitaring entering after about 60 seconds. It begins with jon bon jovi talking and a large instrumental almost like a dance track. It builds up the song for about 2 minutes and gets straight into it with uplifting sounds and vocals. Its not one of my favourite bon jovi songs but it fits in very well with the rest of the album.

7. ''you give love a bad name'' Has an excellent guitaring introduction and riff that will get any concert going. Although the lyrics are very dark and dull and would suggest sadness, once you play this record you certainly wont feel that way. This is another bon jovi song that will make you buzz after listening to it. A great song, similar to meat loaf 'bat out of hell' one for dads driving in their car with the windows down and the roof off going down the motorway about 100m.p.h.

8. ''Bed of Roses'' Is the first slow song of the album. It starts off with slow guitar riff and a piano in the background. Its claimed to be a song he wrote while in his hotel room with a hangover trying to reflect his feelings at the time. Its definately an emotive song with exceptional lyrics. A real ballad love song.

9. ''Blaze of Glory'' The introduction again sounds like and sets a hill billy western scene. With excellent acoustic and electric guitar riffs. It has a very smooth and relaxing verse until the chorus kicks in which is exciting and energetic.

10. ''In these arms'' when I first started listening to this album it was my favourite and most played song at the time. Its a proper ballad. It starts off quite smooth and then really gets going when the first chorus is sung. It has powerful drumming and guitaring throughout the song, a classic to stick on when again diving down the motorway with the windows open cruising about 100m.p.h.

11. ''Bad Medicine'' has a similar introduction to lay your hands on me, with the heavy drums and base. Its not a song that I listen to very much, I generally skip this song when listening to the album. Not one of my personal favourites.

12. ''I'll be there for you'' is a real ballad song. I know I describe most of bon jovi's songs as ballads but once you listen to the music you will be able to relate it yourself. Its about how a man does something to potentially ruine their relationship and asks for one last chance saying that he will be ''there for you'' from then onwards, if she gives him another chance.

13. ''In and outa love'' starts off sounding like a football crowd is singing it until the guitaring kicks in and reallt gets this song going. It sounds similar to a status quo song during the verse but has the typical bon jovi sounding chorus. Another one of the tracks I generally tend to skip when listening to it.

14. ''Runaway'' has an excellent introduction. It sounds kinda sci-fi and prepares you for a great track. Its another song you can really sing along to and get you going. I love this song and it finishes off the album nicely.

15. ''Never say goodbye'' is a classic way to end a great album. With the mood throughout the album generally tending towards getting you off your seat and buzzing this last song really brings you back down to earth. Like how a DJ at a birthday party would play a song to calm down the atmosphere before everybody leaves. Its a great song with similar sounds to bed of roses. An excellent finishing touch.

Overall, this is a great album and appeals to most audiences. I wouldnt recommend it to the younger population. (below 12/13) but anybody over most definately. no matter what kind of genre of music you listen to, this cd will have something for everyone. wether you like to get on your feet and really go for it, or wether you like to sit down in your conservatory with your records listening to some soothing music with a nice glass of scotch on the rocks.

Can be bought almost anywhere from netxt to nothing, really is worth getting if you dont own a copy already. i would say I would give you the money back myself but I dont own a records store so unfortunately I cant. but i can assure you, you will not be disappointed.

Track list.
1. Livin' On A Player
2. Keep The Faith
3. Someday I'll Be Saturday Night

9. Blaze Of Glory

Lay your hands on a copy of this!
Review of Cross Road - Bon Jovi by jovichick123

Advantages: Loads of hits, great lyrics
Disadvantages: Only covers 1984-1994!

Bon Jovi are a five piece rock band hailing from New Jersey. Their original line up consisted of Jon Bongiovi (Vocals and Guitar), Richie Sambora (Lead Guitar), Tico Torres (Drums), David Bryan (Keyboards) and Alec John Such (Bass). Such left the band in 1994 and was replaced by Hugh Macdonald. Often hailed as one of the greatest rock bands of the 1980's (and not just by me before you ask!), Bon Jovi have something for everyone. Bon Jove- Cross Road
Review of Cross Road - Bon Jovi by Lukejones1

Advantages: Ideal for new listners
Disadvantages: More established fans will want something more.

Almost the perfect introduction to Bon Jovi. One of the all time populist bands Bon Jovi have withstood many a musical trend and this disc sums up the first ten years of their career decently. Greatest hits on the whole are not for die hard fans but for casual listners and new comers to an artists music. If you are a die hard Bon Jovi fan then you could probably compile your own hits package of your personal, maybe more obscure offerings; as a new ...

Livin' on a Prayer, You gave Love a Bad Name, Wanted Dead or Alive, Never Say Goodbye, Lay your Hands on Me, Bad Medicine, and I'll be There for You showcase the days when Bon Jovi dominated the rock n pop scene. Absolutely Worth a Listen
Review of Cross Road - Bon Jovi by JenJen1982

Advantages: Songs you know and love, has a bit of everything, well priced
Disadvantages: some songs may not be to everybodys liking

I have to say, I absolutely love this album. It is a collection of all their biggest selling hits and it does not disappoint. Released in the United States in 1994, it soon put Bon Jovi on the map as a force to be reckoned with. The hit Blaze of Glory came from the soundtrack to the film Young Guns 2, in which Jon performed the soundtrack for. He also made a cameo appearance in the film itself. Livin' on a Prayer is absolutely enormous among people ...

Whether it is to keep you going or get you through a broken relationship, this album definately has it all. ... Read review

Review of Cross Road - Bon Jovi by Mistyang

Advantages: ALL THE BEST SONGS ARE ON THIS CD
Disadvantages: None for me

Crossroads is my favourite Bon Jovi album, I once owned it on vinyl but now its on CD and my MP3 player, how times have changed. Keep The Faith
Review of Cross Road/The Best Of... - Bon Jovi by  lizzy8

Advantages: great songs, catchy tunes.... and it's Bon Jovi!
Disadvantages: none

...This is the first Bon Jovi album I ever bought. "Cross Road", is a compilation of 15 Bon Jovi songs spread over the groups 5 albums, as well as the inclusion of 3 new tracks. All the old classics that most people know and love are on it. The album starts off with 'Livin' On A Prayer' - the song that everybody knows, no matter if you happen to be a fan or not. It is very well written. It is a big rock song with a great sing-along chorus, and hearing this song will instantly bring you back to the days of bad hair, bad fashion sense, and great music. Next up is 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night', the first of the new songs. Apparantly it was originally written for the next album, but the band had enough songs for it, and because they felt very confident with this song, it ended up on Crossroad. 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night... Read review

Advantages: All the greats are on there
Disadvantages: Fans will have all these songs already

...Bon Jovi's Cross Roads is a best of album which includes some of their great singalong hits that have made them such a success all over the globe in karaoke bars and other rock and pop clubs. It includes the great 'Livin' on a Prayer', arguably their finest song of all, and some other greats like Bad Medicine which is one of my all-time favourites. There are also a couple of new songs on the album, including Always and also Someday I'll be Saturday Night, both reasonably listenable-to. Review of Cross Road/The Best Of... - Bon Jovi by  piffles

Advantages: Bon Jovi's best
Disadvantages: Its from 1994 so none of their new hits

...I recently bought ?Cross Road' the best of Bon Jovi and have to say that I am very impressed. After hearing bits of it on the sixth form CD player I thought it sounded good so decided I would buy it. I now know that the whole album is just as good as the bits I've heard before. The album does, of course, have a very rocky feel to it which as a Queen fan appealed to me. But what I really like is the guitar riffs of The wonder Richie Sambora as a guitar player myself. The album will definitely encourage me to buy more of the Bon Jovi albums (I am open to suggestions as to which is best bearing in my that my favourite songs on cross road include ?Always' and the wonderful ? Someday I'll Be Saturday night'). If you don't currently own this album but like rock I strongly recommend you go out and get it.... Read review

Additional notes

Album Notes: Bon Jovi finally offers CROSS ROAD, a collection of their best songs plus two recent compositions and a new version of a classic. Fans and first-timers alike will delight in and sing along with this choice blend of hard pop and edgy anthems. "Someday I'll Be Saturday Night" and "Always" continue the Bon Jovi tradition of gritty love songs and rock poetry. Jon Bon Jovi's coarse yet smooth vocals reach out and paint images of characters caught in an American scenic painting, "gotta live my life like I ain't got nothin' but this roll of the dice" Jon Bon Jovi claims in one song. With "Prayer '94" the band offers a toned-down version of "Livin' On A Prayer" which through its subdued, semi-acoustic demeanor achieves an intensity not found in the original. CROSS ROAD reminds us why Bon Jovi is such a successful band. Solid songwriting, excellent production and a killer sound will keep this band on the charts.
