This is the first Bon Jovi album I ever bought.
"Cross Road", is a compilation of 15 Bon Jovi songs spread over the groups 5 albums, as well as the inclusion of 3 new tracks. All the old classics that most people know and love are on it.
The album starts off with 'Livin' On A Prayer' - the song that everybody knows, no matter if you happen to be a fan or not. It is very well written. It is a big rock song with a great sing-along chorus, and hearing this song will instantly bring you back to the days of bad hair, bad fashion sense, and great music.
Next up is 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night', the first of the new songs. Apparantly it was originally written for the next album, but the band had enough songs for it, and because they felt very confident with this song, it ended up on Crossroad. 'Someday I'll Be Saturday Night' has a very acoustic like theme to it. The message is - even when things get bad, you will get through it. "Yeah i'm down, but I know i'll get by"
'Keep The Faith' is one of the classic Bon Jovi anthems. As the first single from the album of the same name. Another great song, and you can't help but sing along to the chorus... it's very catchy.
'Always'
was released as a single in September 1994. It became the biggest hit by the band ever, controlling the charts in late 94 like no other song that existed, and it brought many new fans to the band. The lyrics can't be considered really great or too original, but they are definitely good for this song. "It's been raining since you left me/ Now I'm drowning in the flood / You see I've always been a fighter/ But without you I give up" .... a little cliched I suppose, but it's still a great song.
'Wanted Dead Or Alive' - another classic and timeless Bon Jovi anthem. This song was taken from the now famous ' Slippery When Wet' album. It is the song you will hear fans singing along to the loudest to at any concert. Brilliant.
'Lay Your Hands On Me', taken from the New Jersey album. I like this song, although not as much as the rest. This is the only song that I personally feel should have been left off the album to make room for something else. You soon forget about this though, as the next song starts playing.... 'You Give Love A Bad Name', this was Bon Jovi's breakthrough song - the single hit number one in August 86 in the US charts and Bon Jovi had arrived.
'Bed Of Roses' , is the classic Bon Jovi ballad. It is the main ballad taken from the Keep The Faith album and one of the most famous Bon Jovi songs ever. Bed Of Roses was written by Jon alone. He wrote the lyrics in 1991 at the time he didn't know about the future of the band. It's brilliant, heartfelt and perfect really, and when it comes to love songs and ballads, in my opinion - Bed Of Roses is one of the finest you can find, not just the best by Bon Jovi.... i mean, the best love song/ ballad ever.
'Blaze Of Glory' is Jon's solo song, taken from his "Young Guns 2" soundtrack album from the year 1990, is also included on the album. It was a no.1 single that won a Golden Globe and was also nominated for an Oscar.
'In These Arms' - taken from the 7800 Fahrenheit album, is another great song. A catchy tune, that will have you singing along at the top of your voice.
'Bad Medicine' was taken off the New Jersey album. It is a good tune, but not one of my favourites. An upbeat song, with a good guitar tune in it.
I'll Be There For You - another song to be taken off the New Jersey album, it is yet another love song. It has the most cringe worthy, romanic lyrics I've ever heard..."I'll be there for you, these five words I swear to you/ When you breathe, I wanna be the air for you/ I'll be there for you/ I'd live and I'd die for you/ I'd steal the sun from the sky for you/ Words can't say what love can do, I'll be there for you".... but I still love it. Jon Bon Jovi sings it with such emotion.
In and Out of Love - is taken from the 7800 Fahrenheit album. Desmond Child, who has written hits for Cher, Aerosmith, and I hasten to add.... 'Ricky Martin', helped write this along with Jon Bon Jovi and Richie Sambora. Another good song, but not one of the best on the album in my opinion.
'Runaway' is the song that created Bon Jovi. Because of Runaway's airplay in the radio in 1983 Jon finally got himself a record deal, then gathered up the other band members and they were on the way to record the first album. It was never any kind of breakthrough though, Runaway was only a minor hit, reaching US top 40 in February 1984, but it's more than fair to say that Runaway is where it all started. It got the band noticed, and they took full advantage of it.
'Never say goodbye' - taken from Slippery When Wet, is a beautiful, romanic ballad that was actually written by guitarist Richie sambora. The verdict is... he should write more! It is one of my favourite songs on the album.
By this point I suppose it's fair to say that Bon Jovi is 'pop' rock, but I don't mind that. I love the band, and I don't really care which 'basket' it is put in by the music industry, so long as I enjoy the music.

This is an album every Bon Jovi fan loves, and for anyone interested in the band, and looking to hear more, then I think this album would be a great place to start, you will find yourself rarely skipping a song. It's the album that reminds us all why Bon Jovi is such a successful band.
I've seen this album around for as little as £3.99, so go get yourself a bargain!
