One of the first fantasy trilogies I ever read was R. A. Salvatore's "Forgotten Realms: Icewind Dale" trilogy, featuring the dark elf Drizzt Do'Urden. All this time later and Salvatore is still writing novels with fighting high on the agenda and I find that I can still enjoy them, although not quite as much as I did in my younger years.

I picked up Love Etc (Julian Barnes) at a local library as they were having a book sale of withdrawn books. I have to admit to liking the cover and choosing this book purely on that basis. Love Etc is the sequel to an earlier novel ?Talking It Over?, which I have not read, but this has not had an impact on the enjoyment of this novel, and may even had improved on the story. I am not a lover of sequels unless I am aware that I am reading the first book of a trilogy, etc.
Love Etc was first published in 2000. The writing style is unusual, and took me a while to get into the different characters. It reminds me of the film ?When Harry Met Sally? in the way the main characters take it in turns to talk to me, the reader. So, for instance, page one is Stuart talking to me. My 6 year old son has been prone to ear infections since the age of two years old. He really suffers when an infection strikes and we have had nights where he has literally been screaming in pain all night. I rang my local Primary Care unit but they refused to see him until he'd had the pain 24 hours! They recommended that I keep him warm, comfortable and give him regular doses of Calpol alongside Nurofen for Children if possible.
I regularly gave him Calpol when an ear infection occured, but it didn't seem to touch the sides with him with this kind of pain. However, I had never tried Nurofen before so sent the other half out to get some.
