Trivium is presently one of the most well known bands out there. They are christened the "revival of thrash/heavy metal" by a lot of their fans. The press swoons around them, giving them more hype and praise then anything else recently. Do they live up to the hype? Well, not really. Ascendency was a good album, showing that Trivium had a lot of talent and can play their instruments, as well as construct emotional solos. But it was heavily flawed. ... ...ability, and Matt's screams were, at times, atrocious. I was really hoping the Crusade would capitalise on that potential and I actually expected a great album.
But did Trivium choose to capitalise on their potential? Doesn't seem like it to me. The Crusade is probably the biggest letdown of the year. Don't get me wrong, some of the album was okay, and even enjoyable at sparse times, but the lack of songwriting ability is still evident, and this ...

Advantages: couple of promising riffs and songs Disadvantages: no song really stands out; two very bad songs
i agree with others that are disappointed with this album and agree that trivium have tried to become the new 21st century metallica. with this album came alot of expectation, especially on the back of their last album \'ascendancy\'. however for me this album is sheer disappointment. matt has ditched the screaming in turn for all out singing which at times just does not suit the music he is playing. however like others i knew this was coming as ... ...year. in this tour matt slowly started screaming less and less until when they hit southampton, the place i saw them, the screams had completely gone and corey was doing the bare minimum of them instead. they also played their metallica cover \'master of puppets\', which i feel is no match for the original.
you could almost forgive heafy for singing more, as his voice is good when he wants it to be and obviously singing appeals more to the mainstream ...

...it makes the other albums sound better because you can be listening to Crusade, then switch back to Ember or Ascendancy and it's a totally different sound. Unlike most other bands where putting on an older album just sounds the same, but older.
Keep it up Trivium! ...

Advantages: Rocking / great if you like music with a guitar or 2! Disadvantages: Bit heavy / will not suit everyone!
I was fortunate enough to see Iron maiden on their world tour last year, on their final day at Earls Court. Having been a Maiden fan all my life this was the best I had ever seen a live band at, and when I heard that Trivium were supporting I had mixed reactions too it at first. So I brought the album to familiarize myself with some of their songs, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of musicianship and rigor displayed on the album.
... ...raw talent, perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but if you like to rock out at a show, Trivium don't disappoint. I would recommend buying The crusade because I think every music collection should have a diverse range of music from jazz to soul to heavy metal. And the Crusade is a great heavy metal album to come out of 2006!
The Crusade is the third full-length studio album by metal core band Trivium which was released on October 10, 2006 through Roadrunner ...
