I was fortunate enough to see Iron maiden on their world tour last year, on their final day at Earls Court. Having been a Maiden fan all my life this was the best I had ever seen a live band at, and when I heard that Trivium were supporting I had mixed reactions too it at first. So I brought the album to familiarize myself with some of their songs, and I was pleasantly surprised with the quality of musicianship and rigor displayed on the album.
When hearing them live I was amazed at their raw talent, perhaps not everyone's cup of tea but if you like to rock out at a show, Trivium don't disappoint. I would recommend buying The crusade because I think every music collection should have a diverse range of music from jazz to soul to heavy metal. And the Crusade is a great heavy metal album to come out of 2006!
The Crusade is the third full-length studio album by metal core band Trivium which was released on October 10, 2006 through Roadrunner Records. It is a drastic change from their previous album "Ascendancy", which is classified as metal core. It's a solo insanity CD, but in a good way. Matt Heafy uses a low singing voice similar to that of Metallica's James Hatfield, and the metal core scream that dominated the band's first two albums is rarely heard.
"Detonation", "Anthem (We are the Fire)", and "Entrance of the Conflagration", are the best songs on the album, because they are technically the most impressive, lyrically most memorable and rockingly most dam rocking!
Some of the songs off the album are about famous killings. For example, "Entrance of the Conflagration" is about Andrea Yates's murder of her five children, "Unrepentant" is about Nazir Ahmad's murder of his three daughters and stepdaughter, "Contempt Breeds Contamination" is about the death of Amadou Diallo, and "And Sadness Will Sear" is based upon the murder of Matthew Sheppard; all infamous deaths in the US.
There's something about Trivium's new album which I can't quite put my finger on. It's not as if the albums going to become a timeless classic or an 'album for people of all ages', its just different. Of course its heavy, but with a name like 'Trivium what would you expect? If your even considering buying it I would say do. But be warned you need to listen to it a few times to really appreciate its magnificence!
Tracks are:
1.: Ignition 2.: Detonation 3.: Entrance Of The Conflagration 4.: Anthem (We Are The Fire) 5.: Unrepentant 6.: And Sadness Will Sear 7.: Becoming The Dragon 8.: To The Rats 9.: This World Can't Tear Us Apart 10.: Tread The Floods 11.: Contempt Breeds Contamination 12.: Rising 13.: Crusade
