Cleverly packaged in a faux cigar box, this four-CD compilation of Cuban music is designed ... more
with the curious fan in mind. Each disc is dedicated to a genre: Cuban Invocations (Afro-Cuban religious music); Cantar en Cuba (songcraft); Bailar con Cuba (dance music); and Cubano Jazz (jazz). Rather than attempting a full historical account, the selection of both classic and modern performers suggests the evolution of the music in broad, bold strokes. "Cantar en Cuba" features singer Maria Teresa Vera, a key historical figure, but also up-to-the-minute salsero Issac Delgado. In "Cubano Jazz", the late bandleader Mario Bauza, crucial in the birth of Latin jazz in the early 1940s, is represented alongside contemporary pianist Gonzalo Rubalcaba. The accompanying 112-page booklet includes essays, interviews, and a useful song-by-song discussion that sets the music in context. The result is an informative, rewarding overview of Cuban music--and a terrific instant dance-music collection. --Fernando Gonzalez

Advantages: More drama than you might think Disadvantages: SFX are crud.
reason to do so!
The movie in question was IAm Legend. This is one that has been on the books for a LONG time. The film company has owned the rights to the books since the seventies. That's older than me that is! They have also tried to get this film out there before but, for various reason, the production fell through.
Instead of this rearing its head sooner, other films with similar ideas popped up (such as that one where you get to see the cute guys willy at the start) which were amazing in their own right? and not just because of the willy. I suppose it helped a bit though. Having now seen the other films and loving them, I feared this would be a horridly happy Hollywood horror (alliteration rocks) staring our favourite Sci-Fi normal-guy-who-ends-up-saving-the-world-and-looking-cool-while-doing-so, Will Smith. Oh god, I love type ...
other horror films were the big bulging bicep man just saves the day, with no single scared bones in his body.
Special Effects:
Unlike most zombie type movies that focus more on the monsters and blood, Iam Legend used a lot of effective CGI effects to really give us an emphasis of how isolated New York City has become, what it looks like if humans were not their too look after it. The opening scene with Smith chasing a dear for supper, really showed what it might have looked like during with primal time. Ill never forget the scene, with Smith walking through Times Square, with wheat and sweet corn growing on the streets. The wild animals hurdling through the streets being chases by both smith and the wild lions, who must have escaped from the zoo.
Even the zombies looked different; they still seemed to have a human presence, unlike ...
Advantages: Some good moments of suspense. Good scene setting. Disadvantages: Lost it's story to some daft horror scenes.
***IAm Legend***
This film is a kind of disaster movie; but not in the usual pattern that I was expecting. I enjoy watching end of the world type scenario's like The Day After Tomorrow or Independence Day - big action films, when humanity pulls together to save the world. However, although the film does centre on disease killing off the population, here the similarity ends.
The 15 certificate is a clue that this is not family entertainment and the film is a lot darker than the aforementioned films.
The main hero of the piece is played by Will Smith as Robert Neville who appears to be the sole survivor in New York of a plague that has rapidly killed off the inhabitants of the city.
The film follows his search for other possible survivors; a search that takes years rather than weeks. Robert Neville is also a scientist (as luck ...
