Advantages: Good selection of skream tracks Disadvantages: the frequencies tend to stay in the same conceptual space too often
This mix is quite a hefty run through of all the big tracks of 2007 in the world of Dub-step (which is a relatively new but ever-increasingly popular music genre). The sound is from London and the UK (which is where most of the producers on the mix come from. The tracks are based upon what DJ Skream likes personally and what he plays at DJ sets (or was in the 2007-2008 period).
Kulture kicks off the mix with a reggae infuse synth bassline rizing track which gets the energy levels pumping straight from the outset (interesting way to start a mix!) Next is a track from Skream himself which was popular one on pirate radio and in D clubs 'wobble that gut' with minimal progressive beats and bass-lines. Next is another skream track of a remix of a garage track by dj zinc. Its got bass technical-wobbles and a sick vocal (cool). Then its Skream ...
Advantages: Songs, mix/range of artists Disadvantages: None
I love this CD. The songs may be over five years old now, but I think that they stand the test of time (in my lifetime anyway). The songs released nowadays under the "dance" genre all sound the same with no originality and are all about the same sort of stuff. I'll start off talking about CD One.
There is a range of different artists on here including Kylie Minogue, Justin Timberlake, Kelis, Blue, Atomic Kitten & Jamelia. I like how not all of the songs have been remixed and edited, and how most of the songs by the artists are the "originials". I don't like MC Jig's version of the Cha Cha Slide. It lacks the bounciness DJ Casper's had, and it doesn't feel right to try and do the Cha Cha Slide to it either. All in all, the first CD is good but not my favourite. I love CD Two!!
I find CD Two is the disc to switch on if you're having ...
Infernal's "Self Control", they've got the extended version here instead of the radio edit so we get to hear that little bit more! Again, there is a mixture on here from hardcore to pop and rap to techno. 4/5
CD Three:
Good ol' Lady GaGa, The Saturdays & the Bodyrockers are the stars of this CD. Unless you buy these type of CD's, you probably won't recognise the other artists. I particulary like DJ Gollum's (who?) mix of t.A.T.u's "All The Things She Said". I'm on a bit of a t.A.T.u craze at the moment. Bassfreakerz 's "Cry For You" cover isn't too bad either. This CD seems to be a lot calmer than the previous two, maybe that's why its number three? 4/5
So all in all it's a fantastic CD. We have the songs on there we wish we'd never heard of, but most of it is of a high standard. I really enjoy listening to this and I'm looking forward ...
