Advantages: Interesting & entertaining portrayal of one one of football's real characters Disadvantages: Football movies aren't to everyone's taste, controversial character
for outspokenness and willingness to challenge authority, in addition to his determination and ability to beat all the odds. However, as his powers waned, he unfortunately became a bitter old man, seemingly causing controversy for the sake of it. His comments on the Liverpool fan's involvement in Hillsborough were hurtful beyond measure and were also stupid and wrong and have left a deep impression on many people.
Despite his huge success as a player and manager, the most intriguing period of his career, and the part 'TheDamned United' largely focuses on, is also his least successful; his 44 day spell in charge of the Leeds Utd team.
Leeds Utd were the dominant team of the era, and with long-term manager Don Revie having just left to take the England job, were in search of the best young manager around. Clough may have fitted the bill, but he ...
Advantages: Story, Characters Disadvantages: The depiction of Billy Bremner
It'd be interesting to see who comes out as the winner in a most hated poll between controversial ex-football manager Brian Clough and fallen giants Leeds United, considering that critics and opposing fans have expressed their hatred for both down the years. And whereas The Damned United -- a film which depicts Clough's 44-day employment at the club -- will hardly drastically alter people's opinions on either of the subjects, it is still an incredibly involving [British] drama that warrants the attention of anyone interested in football.
The same can be said of the book by David Peace, from which the film's story is based upon. Despite friends and family reacting angrily to the author's depiction of Clough's erratic train of thought, it really is a fascinating, semi-fictionalised account of one of the sport's most popular figures. Tom ...

Advantages: Return to form of a great band Disadvantages: You may hate punk/rock
appear at The Locarno in Birmingham in 1982. They appeared with *Anti Nowhere League and Charge GBH. Typically Damned, they turned up late and just about averted a riot as most of the crowd thought that they weren't going to show. Captain Sensible strummed his guitar avec yashmak (I love the Capitano); Dave Vanian belted out the songs with his usual graveyard tones; Rat Scabies thrashed the drums; can't remember who was on bass guitar as The D have had so many. I seem to recall The Captain playing Disco Man for "...a bloke at the bar who'd bought him a drink earlier."
So to their this effort - GRAVE DISORDER. Well, what can I say, The Damned are undead, long live The Damned! Aficionados of the band?s
work will be familiar with stuff done during their pomp. Grave Disorder takes a fly by some of it including the immortal: "The Black Album ...
The Damned: Brian James (vocals, guitar); Captain Sensible (vocals, bass); Rat Scabies (vocals, drums); Dave Vanian (vocals). Includes liner notes by Kieron Tyler. All tracks have been digitally remastered. 30th Anniversary Expanded Edition, features 2 bonus discs of material. Released in early 1977, DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED was one of the first punk albums issued and it remains a certified punk classic. Unlike the work of such contemporaries as the Adverts and Slaughter and the Dogs, this stunning debut sounds as fresh and vital today as it did in 1977. The album blasts off with the searing "Neat Neat Neat," a raging slab of buzzsaw guitars, crashing drums, and the sneering vocals of Dave Vanian that ranks among the 20 best punk songs of the era. Never as political as the Sex Pistols or the Clash, the Damned were the original cartoon punks, merrily ripping through such cheerful songs as "Born to Kill," "Stab Your Back," and "Fish" with reckless abandon, playing punk rock for the simple joy of making loud, aggressive music. Other highlights include the group's anthemic hit single, "New Rose," a pounding track that's powered by a monster riff from guitarist Brian James, and a swell rendition of the Stooges' "I Feel Alright." Produced by Nick Lowe (who allegedly sped up the original tapes to give the Damned a "punkier" sound), DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED is essential for any fan of UK or West Coast punk.
