IF I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER 4:07
The album kicks off with this mellow track concerning love with a third party. It is a great start and you will have the chorus in your head for weeks.
Luther Vandross - the premier soul vocalist of the last 25 years and, even though I've never met the man, probably a heck of a nice guy too. This makes the fact that he suffered a devastating stroke last April, from which he is still recovering, all the sadder. Whilst he has made good progress(even sending a video message to this weeks Grammys), it is till uncertain whether he will ever be able to perform again professionally. The good news on this front is that he has entertained his family and friends at bedside by singing to them.

IF I DIDN'T KNOW BETTER 4:07 The album kicks off with this mellow track concerning love with a third party. It is a great start and you will have the chorus in your head for weeks.
THINK ABOUT YOU 5:04 Another classy, mellow groove with winning vocals from Vandross. Turn the lights down low, put the champagne on ice and press play on this track for a truly relaxing experience.
IF IT AINT ONE THING 4:13 Foxy Brown (who I admit I've never heard of) joins Luther for a slice of funk with an infectious beat and another addictive chorus that will have you hooked.
BUY ME A ROSE 3:48 A short but truly beautiful love song. This is Luther Vandross at his tender best. The song concerns a man who works hard for his lady but all she really wants is attention and to be truly loved. Nobody does a song like this better than Mr Vandross. I defy even the butchest hariest builder not to feel some emotion with this one.
THE CLOSER I GET TO YOU 6:25 As already mentioned, this duet with Beyonce Knowles won a Grammy award. A brilliant vocal performance from both stars, this is the kind of song that conjures up images of smoky downstairs jazz bars and lonely hearts searching for love.
LOVELY DAY 5:57 Busta Rhymes joins LV for a top notch cover of the Bill Withers track which drips with funk. One of the things I always look forward to on a Luther album is the cover track and this one keeps up the magnificent standard of other covers such as How Deep Is Your Love and Aint No Stoppin Us Now. This is one to play at full blast in the car with the top down, a summer breeze ruffling your hair and your partner at your side!
DANCE WITH MY FATHER 4:26 Oh my. This is a classic. I first heard this on Luther's web site when hearing of his stroke. I don't mind telling you it brought tears to my eyes. This is his most personal song since Any Love and concerns Luther's wonderful relationship with his father when he was a child. The song was written by Luther for his mother and the lyrics tell a beautiful story ;
"Sometimes I'd listen outside her door And I'd hear how my mother cried for him I pray for her even more than me I pray for her even more than me I know I'm praying for much too much But could you send back the only man she loved?"
SHE SAW YOU 5:44 An upbeat track about a guy trying to cover for his philanderous friend after his girlfriend sees him with someone else. A funky bass line plays under a Vandross vocal that is interspersed with various 'talky' bits.
APOLOGISE 4:59 A rich man tries to persuade his girl that he has more to offer than just material things. A mellow track, that is probably the album's weakest.
HIT IT AGAIN 4:37 A track to get down to! Queen Latifah helps Luther with this upbeat slice about love addiction. She doesn't do a lot here but is effective nonetheless.
RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE 4:50 A slower tempo groove that proves Vandross is still the coolest soul guy around even at the age of 53. Has this guy ever sung a bum note? Without getting too descriptive, this is definitely a tune to bump'n'grind too!
ONCE WERE LOVERS 4:34 Another signature love song that laments the break up of a relationship with a great vocal and telling lyrics. Legend Stevie Wonder adds a lovely harmonica solo.
LOVELY DAY (PART II) 3:54 Busta Rhymes invites Luther to 'step to the microphone' once more to give us a slightly different version of Lovely Day that's even more laid back and groovy than the first one. A definite highlight this. Does anyone remember the arcade racing game Outrun, where you took control of a Ferrari, with your girlfriend at your side and funky tracks to choose to accompany your drive? This one would be brilliant on there!
THEY SAID YOU NEEDED ME 4:42 A fine, fine album closes with a slightly weaker track that is still nonetheless nothing less than polished, classy soul.
Dance With My Father drips with sophistication and class and gives a good mix of groovy funk and ballads so sweet they would melt in your mouth if edible. If this were to be Luther Vandross' last album, and I pray it isn't, then I couldn't think of a finer tribute to a truly wonderful career.
...be released by Luther Vandross. Dance With My Father was released on 17th June 2003 without any publicity because Luther Vandross was still recovering from the stroke that he had on 18th April 2003. This is a single Album with 14 tracks. The cd album has a single picture of Luther Vandross on the front and a grass design on the back with a full list of song titles on the album.
I paid £14.99 for my album from Virginstore.com.
SONGS ON THE ALBUM
... ...I say?
7. DANCE WITH MY FATHER.
This song sent a shiver down my spine when I first heard it. Absolutely fantastic song about someone remembering their father.
8. SHE SAW YOU.
Quite a fast beat, Its about someone getting caught cheating on their partner.
9. APOLOGIZE.
This track is unmistakably Luther Vandross. The beat and sound is very similar to his change days. The song is about a man telling a girl to choose between him and her boyfriend.

Advantages: Beautiful vocals and lyrics Disadvantages: None to mention
A stunning song, his lyrics really did tug at my heart strings. His vocals and lyrics blew me away the first time i heard this track. IT tends to help us go back into the past and remember the relationships we had, the feelings and emotions we shared. In most cases, i am sure that this song will draw out a few tears, such is the power of the words of this song. With all this in mind, the value for money on this CD is great and to be a part of Luther ... ...is amazing. Luther Vandross is blessed with talent and ability and he demonstrates this in his vocals on this track. I would definitely recommend this to anybody who is into any kind of music as I am sure his vocals will affect you and the way you live your life. ...

, which Kenny went on to record.
Eventually Richard Marx landed his own recording contract, after initially being rejected by record companies, and has since gone on to record a number of albums whilst still also writing for and collaborating with other artists, right up until the present day.
A particular favourite song of mine is one he co-wrote with LutherVandross, which Luther did record, entitled 'Dance With MyFather'.
His greatest hits collection was released in 1997, and although he has released further albums and had more hits since, it remains a good collection of songs from earlier in his career.
The tracklist and a little bit about the songs :~

of this as I certainly enjoyed it, however I found myslef unable to fully engage with it as the energy levels were inadequate in coming up with such results. Nas is joined by Alicia key's however he sings over some of her parts, and it really wastese her position on the track this way.

12. "Revolutionary Warfare"
I thought that this one was pretty simialr to the one which came before it in terms of its impact. this one is a very differnet one as it moves on from Alicia Key's production to more Hip Hop in The Alchemist's compostion,. but I thought that this one remainded an unmemeorable tune in the album.
13. "Dance"
I saw this one as a very personal one, and it prevented me from getting into it at all as it has him doding a track where he basically extracts the main elements of LutherVandross' "Dance With MyFather ...
romantic and what you like about your partner.
11. Closer I get to you
This is another fantastic slow song that is perfect for a romantic evening with your partner as is Speechless. This track features the great LutherVandross and is on his album Dance with myfather. The track has a sublime intro with just a drum beat and a bass, the song is a cover of Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack's classic. A stupendous song that features both vocalists soaring and showing off their extraordinary vocals.
12. Dangerously in love 2
This I suppose you could say is a cover of the Destiny's child track, It's a reworking of the version from The groups album Survivor. It improves on the previous one through some better music and Beyonce's voice is better too. A worthwile reworking.

This is a short interlude that ...

Life can be cruel and nowhere is this more apparent than when Luther Vandross was felled by a stroke just prior to the release of DANCE WITH MY FATHER. For the most personal of his 15 albums, Vandross dipped into the worlds of R&B and hip-hop for help on a handful of songs. Checking in are Beyonce Knowles playing Donny Hathaway to Luther's Roberta Flack on a lush reading of "The Closer I Get to You" that finds the roles flipped and Busta Rhymes hopping aboard a thumping cover of Bill Withers' "Lovely Day" (that includes a Part II). Also helping out with the heavy lifting are Queen Latifah on the snappy "Hit It Again" with its crackling rhythms, and bad-girl Foxy Brown who brings plenty of attitude to the sassy "If It Ain't One Thing." For all the celebrity cameos, Vandross is most successful when he masterfully changes gears into his guise as pop's premiere balladeer. With his velvety croon, this New York City native reminisces about better times on the wistful "Once Were Lovers" (featuring a moving Stevie Wonder harmonica solo) and also delivers the heartfelt title track, a self-described career song dedicated to Vandross' late father.
