...of my musical interest for a couple of years, but I don't think I've ever actually heard anything by him. As for Martha's mum, I know that her name is KateMcGarrigle and that she performs with her sister, Anna, but other than that I'm stumped.
I may well have been predisposed to like Martha simply because her name was Martha. I've always had a soft spot for the name. Both Bruce Wayne and Clark Kent's mothers were called Martha which makes me think that the name has some kind of link to greatness.
After hearing Martha play live on the radio, I visited her website and found a couple of tracks to download. Advantages: Brilliant! Disadvantages: Mad! (Or is that still an advantage?)
..., coherent or familiar to fall back on. This is where I got annoyed that there was no lyric sheet. As good a singer as Patton is, he is almost unintelligible at times due to his style. When I finally got hold of them at a website I realised that they were not exactly your run-of-the-mill lyrics! But this song would appear to be about machines, computers, robots, technology and what it has made us become - a theme throughout the album, I think.
For some reason this song sounds like the soundtrack to some wacky cartoon. Something with Wile E. Coyote and the Roadrunner, perhaps. I was having trouble relating to this music, I had to learn to open myself up to it. I had done this once before, when I had started sharing music with a colleague at work. He was into Country music and such things and when I first listened to stuff like Kate and AnnaMcGarrigle...

4. ♪ "Black is the Colour" is a love song as I like them. Here is the beginning of the song : "Black is the colour of my true love's hair" ...
5. ♪ "Heart like a Wheel" : Andrea's voice and the piano make this song full of emotion. It is indicated in the booklet that the song was written by AnnaMcGarrigle so it may be a cover. I have never heard the former version, if ever there was one.
6. ♪ "Buachaill on Eirne" is one of the two songs in gaelic. Hopefully, the translation into English is given in the booklet !
7. ♪ "Old Hag" is an instrumental, a tune I imagine could be played during a traditional wedding ceremony or in a pub on Saint Patrick's day. I do know this must sounds SO cliché !!
