As a member of Destiny's Child Beyonce has had huge success and has emerged as a fine songwriter and the main woman behind the bands success, Beyonce cousin Kelly Rowland and fellow band mate Michelle Williams have both released successful solo albums but neither compare to the sales of Beyonce's Dangerously in love. Here is my review of her debut solo album.
1. Crazy in love
This track just has one of those melodies that means the track is played for years at clubs and party's. Even though the track features ''rapper'' Jay-Z it still hits the spot despite The rockafella guy name dropping Portland Trail Blazers point guard Nick Van Exel. Not sure why he does that but anyway. A very fine first track that was a huge single.
2. Naughty Girl
This is Beyonce at her sexiest, her voice sounds fantastic and so different than her normal singing, she shows that she has a great vocal range. This track has a great guitar bassline like melody. A great track but It's not one of the best on the album.
3. Baby boy
Untortunately Sean Paul features on this track which is in my opinion the worst song on the album, Beyonce is as always great but Sean Paul?? how did he even get a record contract? A huge waste of Beyonce's talent and
a rare bad judgement on her part.
4. Hip Hop Star
This track is a fine slice of hip hop though. Beyonce is joined by Outkast's Big Boi and also Sleepy Brown who was in Big Boi's hit I like the way you move. Beyonce's vocals are sexy and breathy accompained by a fantastic bassy drum beat. A good track.
5. Be with you
This track has a nice bassline and is the first mellow track on the album, Beyonc's emotive voice shines on this track, the title is pretty self explanatory really. Be with you is a very fine track and one of the best on the album.
6. Me myself and I
This has a fantastic solid bassline and some very nice string parts and piano tones. Another soft track, the track is about when you leave a relationship with someone because of constant playing. It is about loving yourself and being independent and strong.
7.Yes
This track starts with a records crackling and then a drum sequence starts with some nice keyboard parts. It's another mellow track in which Beyonce shines yet again. Another very fine track that sounds great for late night romantic times spent with your partner.
8. Signs
This track features Missy Elliot, It's suprising good for a track featuring Missy, It's about the signs of the zodiac. I don't believe in the signs but when she says she says she's fallen in love with a Sagittarius I wish it would be true. My birthday is 7th December. It has some fantastic piano work and a nice drum beat.
9. Speechless
This is without a doubt a superb track. The intro features some great soft funky guitar licks and a soft drum then the guitar starts getting into full stretch, The track is about how you can feel when you fall in love with someone and how you can feel around them. An extraordinary song with a fantastic highly emotive guitar solo. This is one of Beyonce's finest moments vocally too, she sounds quite quite brilliant.
10. That's how you like it
This is another track featuring Jay-Z but this one has not reference to Van Exel or any baller. It's quite a nice track with a nice deep bassline. The song is about what you like your partner to do while you are romantic and what you like about your partner.
11. Closer I get to you
This is another fantastic slow song that is perfect for a romantic evening with your partner as is Speechless. This track features the great Luther Vandross and is on his album Dance with my father. The track has a sublime intro with just a drum beat and a bass, the song is a cover of Donny Hathaway and Roberta Flack's classic. A stupendous song that features both vocalists soaring and showing off their extraordinary vocals.
12. Dangerously in love 2
This I suppose you could say is a cover of the Destiny's child track, It's a reworking of the version from The groups album Survivor. It improves on the previous one through some better music and Beyonce's voice is better too. A worthwile reworking.
13.Beyonce interlude
This is a short interlude that introduces girft from virgo, The interlude is ''i believe that harmoinies are colors every time i paint it sharpens my harmony yesterday i tried to paint you but the colors weren't beautiful enough your love goes beyond what i can say love beyonce''
14. Gift from virgo
This is a fantastic track that goes together with signs, It has a jazzy feel to it with some nice piano and guitar work, Beyonce's voice sounds so beautiful and natural. A very fine track that is another track that would be lovely for a romantic meal with your partner.
15. Work it out
This is from the Austin Powers film which Beyonce appears in as Foxy Cleopatra. It starts off with and old school funky guitar part and some heavy drums. despite being part of the film this is a good track which is the only good thing about that god awful film. I Hate Mike Myers.
16. Bonnie and Clyde
This is yet another one with Jay-Z, That makes three duets with her partner. This is an ok track but it would be a lot better if it didnt have Jay-Z on it. He's not a great rapper. The last listed track.
BONUS TRACK
There is a fantastic hidden bonus track that is a great tribute to Beyonce's Father and manager Mathew Knowles, It is a touching ballad about his love and faith in Beyonce. Maybe Eminem should listen to this song and try and patch things up with his mum, If that's possible now.
OVERALL
This is an outstanding album that only suffers due to the duet with Sean Paul and too many with Jay-Z. However the duets with Big Boi & Sleepy Brown and the one with Luther Vandross are fantastic and Speechless is a real gem that touches me deeply.
I would say for Beyonce's next album she needs to have less duets with people or maybe just don't do a duet with an artist because you are friends with them. Anyway that's a few minor points from a fine album. well done Beyonce.
