I received this CD as a present at Christmas I had been wanting it for a long time but wasn't sure whether the song's would live up to the success of 'bad day'
However I was extremely wrong! One of the best CD's in my collection I think, from a very talented man.
This CD is has a wide rang of music genre's from the very up beat tracks to very mellow thought provoking songs, If I had to pick a favourite I think it would have to be 'Hollywood' although they all come very close seconds.
I think the problem with Daniel is that people compare him to James blunt to much where they are slightly similar in the sound, I think the actual lyrics and musical talent is very different. Blunt has a very deep and meaningful way of writing music, which to me comes across very winy and slightly needy, whereas Daniel Powter breezes over a situation with the lyrics and lets the music tell the story, creating a much more thought provoking song. But that's enough with comparisons.
He starts of the album with a great introduction off 'song 6' I do find that strangely the best songs never do have proper titles, this is a very up beat start to CD.
The one thing that Powter doesn't change throughout the album is the use of the piano, I think that not only is his voice great but his actual musical talent is amazing. He uses the piano to its best in the second track 'free loop' the second song to be released from the album, where it is used throughout the chorus more than word which I think works very well, as while listing to the chorus it provided a lovely background to the deep words off the past verses.
After these two tracks they do slightly start to mould themselves into one but nevertheless having certain characteristics to separate them making each one better than the last. The tracks go as follows, 'Bad Day' the track that made him, in my opinion. 'Suspect' 'Lie to me' 'Jimmy gets high' 'Styrofoam' 'Hollywood' 'Lost on the stoop' 'Give me life' I think probably everyone has heard off Daniel Powter from his very popular chart topper 'Bad day' But if you haven't heard of him, not to worry, you don't need to off to love this album, he has a wonderful voice and great talent which combined give you very good listening enjoyment.
Although Powter is a great singer and song writer, I do think if he is to top the charts above the many over successful male solo artist's like Blunt and David Gray (off whom I do have the albums off) He does need to make a much bigger impression with a groundbreaking second album this year.
Daniel Powter's 2005 album isn't the longest of albums, but it is a very good selection of what I would say a wonderful talent.

Bad Day is very catchy. Will wait and see what he offers up next before getting the album. I prefer James Blunt xx

eek a lot of mis-spellings and typos. corus/chorus, meaningfull/meaningful, to/too, off/of, made it harder for me to read but you did have some good information about the cd. I did like 'Bad Day', like anna I think it did get played too much, still can't decide whether to gamble on getting the album. al x
