*** ABOUT DANIEL POWTER*** I first heard of Daniel Powter when I heard his single ‘Bad Day’, which was a number 1 hit. Daniel was born on Feb 25th 1971 and is a Canadian artist. Daniel is well known for playing the piano as many people and many of his fans may have noticed when performing live. Daniel decided to take up playing the piano when bullies destroyed his violin. Daniel has released many songs into the charts and across the world but none has been as successful as Bad Day. Daniel plays and sings piano pop and indie pop.
Daniel Powter has released 3 albums in total including: I’m Your Betty – Released in 2000 Daniel Powter – Released in 2005 Under The Radar – Released in 2008
***THE ALBUM*** These are the songs on the album, I have reviewed them the order they are on the album.
• Song 6 –This song isn’t as slow as some of his other songs and is more upbeat and has a very catchy chorus. When this song first
starts you think it is going to be quite slow but soon get faster when Daniel starts to sing the chorus.
• Free Loop – This is a slower song than Song 6 and from the lyrics I’m guessing the song is about a girl. The chorus is also very catchy and had me singing along to it.
• Bad Days – This is the song a lot of people may recognise as it got to Number One in the charts over here in the UK. This is one of my favourite songs; I could listen to this over and over again. It’s obviously about someone having a bad day. In the video to the song you will see a man and a woman at a tube station and she draws sad pictures on the wall but he adds bits to the pictures when she has gone to make them happy pictures.
• Suspect – This song is very different to the other songs I have heard on the album so far. David sounds high pitched in this song (which he does very well) and the music has more bass to it and sounds a bit rockier, than his other songs. Although it’s quite hard to make out the lyrics I still liked this song.
• Lie To Me – This song is about a girl that used to live up the block and it describes the girl in the song. This song is quite slow to start off but gets more upbeat as it gets to the chorus and is another catchy song.
• Jimmy Gets High – This song just mentions someone called Jimmy Getting High and telling us that he would rather be on his own and saying that he doesn’t need anybody. This is quite a slow song. After the first verse and chorus has been sung, this song picks up tempo a bit and you can hear more instruments which come into the song.
• Styrofoam – This song is a bit more upbeat that Jimmy Gets High but is still quite slow. It’s not one of my favourite songs on the album but is still a great song with strong lyrics and music.
• Hollywood – This song had a very strong beat to it and the lyrics sound as though they are about a girl who he doesn’t want to let go and a line in the lyrics mention ‘Your all Mine’.
• Lost On the Stoop – This song starts off quite slow and starts off with Daniel singing straight from the beginning. After he sings the first verse the music picks up a bit more. The lyrics and the music make it sound very deep and meaningful.
• Give Me Life – This song starts off quite slow, but again after he sings the first 2 versus and starts to sing the chorus the music picks up a bit and it is a very nice song. I often hear this song being played in my local TGI Friday’s and is very chilled out.
***PRICE/AVALIABILITY*** As this album was released a few years ago now you can probably get hold o this album for less than £10 from stores such as HMV, Zavvi and other music stores as well. You can also purchase this online from www.hmv.co.uk which costs just £3.99 and you can also buy this from Amazon as well.
***OVERALL OPINION*** Depending what music you like to listen to and enjoy depends on whether you will like this album or not. My mum and sister also enjoyed this album as well, as there are some fantastic catchy songs on here. I would definitely buy his other albums as I think his music is great and I really enjoy listening to it, more than once! This album has some great slow songs but also some great more upbeat songs as well. Some of the music on this album may also remind you of Coldplay, Maroon 5 and Gavin DeGraw, so if you like their music it’s definitely worth listening to this album.
