I'm not a great fan of Pink Floyd owning only two of their albums, but 'Dark side of the moon' is one of my favourite all time greatest pieces of musical work & arguably their best work to date. Look at the facts, it was released in 1973 & featured on the USA Billboard top 200 album chart for a staggering 741 weeks, which is over 14 years!!! It's also the fifth best selling album in the world, so any album that sells that well & stays in the charts or that long can't be that bad!! It was many years after it was released that I eventually purchased this album & have never been disappointed with it. The track listing is:
Speak to me Breathe On the run Time Great gig in the sky Money Us & them Any colour you like Brain damage Eclipse
I just can't fault this album, it is a pure master piece from start to finish, little wonder that it made such an impact with so many people. The highlights of the album for me are the tracks 'Time', apart from the infuriating sound of clocks chiming at the start of the track & 'Money' with an absolutely brilliant piece of guitar work from Dave Gilmour & Co. To me 'Money' is probably my all time favourite music track & this version on the album lasts for over 8 minutes. 'Us & them' is another classic track.
It's the kind of album that you listen to & once its finished you play it all over again…..and again! If you listen to the album in the car with low to medium volume, with background noise you'll lose track of which song your listening too as they all blend together so well it becomes difficult picking out the start & ends of each track.
This album can be picked up quite cheaply these days, even if your not a great Pink Floyd fan like me, take the plunge & buy this classic album & you won't be disappointed.
