Advantages: Ja Rule's scratchy vocals are neutralized by feminine backing vocals.
Disadvantages: Fans of Venni Vetti Vecci will be gravely disappointed. Ja Rule tries to represent the hip hop spectrum in one album.Great features but "Pop Rap" is best appreciated in small doses!

...We first saw the young Ja Rule in Venni Vetti Vecci. In this album he was a wild young black man with a scratchy voice that was in demand and Def Jam realised this and signed him up. Over the years though, Ja Rule has gone under a transition period from hardcore gangster beats and lyrics to softer more mainstream rap. This approach was fuelled by the release of Ja Rule’s Rule 3:36. An album in which Ja Rule first started to experiment with the mixture of scratchy deep vocals with light almost pop classified beats. The gamble paid off and with the release of the smash hit Put It On Me Ja Rule was said to be destined for great things by hit hop pundits around the world. Advantages: Laughing at Ja Rule making a fool of himself on the microphone over and over...
Disadvantages: Two words.... ITS MURDA!!!!!!!!!!!!

...spits senseless gangsta lyrics with unwitty violent narratives which dont get anywhere. Jim Henson would have a field day with Ja Rule, as not only does he sound like the Cookie Monster, but in fact, looks like Kermit. Keeping that in mind, we move on to "Clap Back", which is a hilarious excuse for complete and utter garbage. Listening to this song honestly makes me want to grab a gun, find Ja Rule, and end his miserable life. The materialistic and commercial lyrics are only a part of the shittiness of the song, as the beat is unbelievably annoying and clubbish. It appears to me that Irv "Fat F*ck" Gotti was trying to somehow copy the Neptunes... two other pieces of trash. The clubbish feel to the song would appeal to happy-go-lucky females, tomboys, and wanna-be ghetto people who dress with way too much on. To those reading this... have... Read review

...zu etablieren. Ich möchte gleich vorwegnehmen, dass ich "DSOTM" sofort liebte, nachdem ich das Album das erste Mal hörte. Ich war an diesem Tag allerdings etwas daneben nach einer durchzechten Nacht und mein Urteilsvermögen vielleicht dadurch "ein wenig" beeinträchtigt. Aber nach weiteren zahllosen "nüchternen" Anhörungen der CD, kann ich jedem bestätigen, dass es sich bei diesem Album um ein geniales Werk handelt. Es lässt sich mit nichts vergleichen, das ich jemals davor gehört habe, und glaubt mir, ich habe schon viel bizarres Zeugs in meinem Leben gehört; Rock, Pop, Psychodelic. "DSOTM" ist herrlich entspannend, stoned und irgendwie traurig; es hinterließ bei den ersten Anhörungen ein Gefühl, als ob sich mein Leben auf unerklärliche Weise verändert hat ….
