Advantages: Deep lyrics, moving songs Disadvantages: Morose, not many catchy choruses
...American Music Club recorded 7 albums between 1986 and 1994, and "Mercury" was the sixth. Their first album on a major label, it has a slightly more commercial, produced sound than the earlier work.
Mark Eitzel, who now has a solo career, was AMC's frontman and songwriter.
Here comes the warning - American Music Club can be a little on the depressing side, and you don't get a lot of chorus-laden pop songs.
What you do get, though, is music worth listening to nonetheless - thoughtful alt.rock, with emotional songs that can also be very beautiful.
Stand out tracks are "If I had a hammer", with it's jangly guitar in the background; "Johnny Mathis' feet"; and "The hopes and dreams of heaven's 10,000 whores" (don't you just love the titles?).
For an even less happy mood, check out "I've been a mess", where Eitzel sounds so utterly...

Advantages: A musical and visual extravaganza! Disadvantages: Too expensive for the average fan
...On October 23rd, The Freddie Mercury Solo Collection is to be released. The releases are in various formats including a 10 CD and 2 DVD set presented in a deluxe 120 page slipcase hardback book includine a forward by Brian May. The formats then range from a 3 CD set and a Video collection on VHS and DVD. This is a true must for Freddie fans, however I have read on the queen on line site that the 10 cd pack will be in the region of £120.00. Whilst this is a fair price for 10 cds, it is a lot of money to ask a fan to shell out - it really is a rich collectors dream as it will feature rarities and interviews. I have no doubt that the set will be excellent and a must for those with money to burn - however I find that the cost is out of my reach. I shall have to settle for the 3 cd set or the video! Knowing the quality of Freddie's work...

Advantages: The Music, The Band. The Design Disadvantages: takes some time
...the others on this CD (except for the NYC demo) live-recorded. They're part of a set played as the "Black Sessions". The quality is very good, the applause could almost be added in the studio, it's that fitting. "Specialist" is the only song on here that hasn't already been in another version on the album. For people who are unsure whether to purchase or not this song should make you decide.
"The clock is set for nine
But you know you're gonna make it eight"
,Leif Erikson' is another highlight. Those who like the album version will love this. It's even more intense and full of energy. The typical "dark and moody" bass, the dull guitar and the feeling, the way that Paul Banks almost retells a poem rather than just singing a song. Although some parts are hard to understand, lyric-wise as well.
" It's like learning a new language
