Advantages: One of the defining Moody Blues albums - as good as it ever was

...In 2003 Universal Music embarked on a project to re-master the first five of the Moody Blues albums from the original tapes using modern production techniques. They also decided to issue additional tracks - alternative takes and versions - which were not included on the final album. As an avid Moody's fan, already of 40 years standing, I decided to buy all five of these new remasters even though I have the older CDs in my collection. This is the fourth of a cycle of reviews written about the 2006 deluxe SACD edition series. "Children's" was the second of two albums that the Moody Blues recorded in 1969 and the first to be released on their own Threshold label - the label that still hosts their releases in the UK. Advantages: One of the greatest of songwriters at the peak of his craft
Disadvantages: Erm.... none

...Once upon a time, two brothers, Martin and Paddy, worked in their dad's garage in County Durham. A customer sells a cheapo acoustic guitar to Mr McAloon, and Martin taught himself to play on it. Only then did his older brother show any interest.... and so, putting aside ideas of becoming a priest, he became a songwriter and singer instead. So began the bizarre voyage of Prefab Sprout, through critical raves, the devotion of a hardcore fanbase, and the general indifference of most of the world. Indeed, how such an obviously classy act remained so steadfastly unsuccessful is one of the most pertinant question posed by the re-issue of their second album, Steve McQueen (entitled Two Wheels Good in the US after the late actor's estate objected to the original title).
