This...... is the current American Idol Winner.
David Cook is the American Idol that nearly never was. He actually was not initially going to try out for the television talent show, he was at the auditions to support his brother but, after some pushing from his brother, decided to audition too. A good decision, because he became the winner of the seventh season of American Idol in 2008. David Cook is classified as a Rock, singer-songwriter. His sound is definitely very rocky, but in my opinion quite soft rock. He has a very deep, raspy voice that lends itself very well to this type of music. What I really like about him is that he can actually play an instrument, unlike a lot of the new pop stars out there today who are just manufactured. He plays the guitar and actually used it quite a lot when he was performing on Idol. If you look at the song credits on his album too you will find that he has been involved in writing more of the tracks than not which also tells me that he is a credible artist and one that will probably stand the test of time.
It's funny because at the start of the American Idol show he was not one of my favourites and I didn't think he would win but as the weeks got further and further I really started to like his voice which is quite different from anything out there and also his artistry and he really did become my frontrunner. Cook's album, the self titled David Cook was released on 18th November 2008 and has since gone platinum. It has now sold over 1 million copies in the United States. It was released in England on April 5 2009. I like the start of the CD more than the end but that might be because I've listened to the beginning more. Highlights for me include, Light On and Declaration. The Time of My Life was his first song to be released after American Idol and was the song he sang after he was declared winner of the show. This is featured as a bonus track on the CD. Other tracks include:

I've heard a lot of his pre-Idol stuff and it's great - why he didn't hit the big time before AI I'll never know. A very talented artist and I'm sure that we'll see a lot more of him.

I've heard a lot of his pre-Idol stuff and it's great - why he didn't hit the big time before AI I'll never know. A very talented artist and I'm sure that we'll see a lot more of him.
