I am a very big fan of the reality TV shows, X Factor, Britain's Got Talent and most of all American Idol, I think these show are a great way of giving people the chance to make it. I think American Idol seems to produce some incredible talent, it seems each year they have that one person who you know is going to make it big, for example Kelly Clarkson (who I am a massive fan of) and now David Cook (winner of season seven in 2008).
From the very first show I loved the sound of David Cooks voice, it just had a completely different sound from the other contestants and he made every song his own, he didn't seem bothered about how big a song was, he would change it to suit him, sometimes it didn't work but most the time it did and it was amazing.
After he won the show I thought that I would get his album as soon as it was released but then I forgot all about it until I read a review on here about the album. The first thing I did was find it online and purchase it and I was not to be disappointed, from the very first song (Declaration) to the very last (The Time of My Life) I was hooked and found that this was the only album I listened to for weeks.
David Cook is a rock singer/songwriter (more what I call soft rock rather than hardcore) who can also play the guitar (which he used in the show quite a lot) the thing I also love is that he has had a hand in writing quite a lot on this album (most new stars tend to release either covers or have all there stuff written for them) I find that this makes his album even better as you know its what he wanted to release.
The album is self titles "David Cook", I think my favorite song on the album is the first on - Declaration, it a great upbeat rocky song that makes you want to carry on and listen to the rest of the album. I think the song which is the most heartfelt has to be Permanent which is a song about his brother who was battling brain cancer (and has since passed away) this a very simple song and the shortest on the album but really makes you stop and listen, this is a very powerful song where David almost begs to take his brothers place.
I even think the song "The Time of My Life" (which is the song he released when he won) is reasonably good, you can tell its one that he has not written as it's a lot more pop than rock, it the usual kind song that's released when someone wins a singing show.
David Cook track listing: 1. Declaration 2. Heroes 3. Light On 4. Come Back to Me 5. Life on the Moon 6. Bar-ba-sol 7. Mr. Sensitive 8. Lie 9. I Did it for You 10. Avalanche 11. Permanent 12. A Daily Anthem 13. The Time Of My Life
I think David Cook has got a great career ahead of him and I can't wait for him to release his next album.
You can currently find David Cooks album for sale for £8.89 on Amazon, although you may find it cheaper elsewhere. You can also find about more about him on his website www.davidcookofficial.com
