...David Gray is a fairly recent discovery for me, only having really become familiar with his music in the last decade or so. It’s hard to attach a genre to this man, though to me he comes across as a kind of rock/blues/folk combination. He has a wonderfully unique gravelly voice that adds raw emotion and a melodramatic air to his songs of love. It’s hard to discover much about the artist himself (I don’t think he actively covets publicity) other than for his music. David was born in Manchester in 1970, although he was brought up in Wales, and went on to a University education in Liverpool. His career got off to a faltering start and he has switched record labels often, before becoming a solo artist to be reckoned with. A New Day at Midnight was given to me as a present and finds it way into the CD player with some regularity... Read review

Advantages: A refreshing change of direction for this artist.
Disadvantages: Her usual power doesn't come through on a couple of tracks on the album.

My favourite of the album is the rockiest track 'Ten Days', which gives a different feel to her singing and she certainly can prove she is a multi-talented artist, followed by 'Rain, Tax' which hilights the new direction she has taken with this album putting her firmly in this century. Although I'm not a true Celine Dion fan, this is definatley an album to put on in the car, turn up real loud, and let her blast away! One to dance to, sing to... anywhere. ...This new album from the ex-Police singer is a very polished piece of work. The hit Brand New Day is one of many highlights. The technicality of the music is first class, and the quality of the production is second to none. The style of music is Sting's trademark down tempo rock-pop. The whole album is consistent and pleasing to the ear, Sting's sound has matured well over time and with the high technological standards it all adds up to a quality purchase. It's perfect as background music, but also works well if you want something more involving. Perhaps the only complaint is the lack of ups and downs- the music stays at a constant throughout but this can be a positive point too. Well worth the money.... Read review
