Personally, not being a real avid fan of the old Dawsons Creek myself i cant really comment on the show much but there are some very moving scenes that require the "slushiest" soft rock ballards. This is generally what you should expect to find on this album!
I also bought only the second volume, i cannot comment on the 1st volume!
I bought this album purley for the second song on the album; Evan and Jaron, Crazy For This Girl. You may have heard it as it was released, i looked for the single but couldnt find it anywhere and i was keener on buying this compilation rather than the Evan and Jaron album.
The album itself has been noted at around the £11 version in places like the virgin megastore. I however seem to be one of the lucky ones. On a trip to a place called, Mcarthur Glen, a retail, outlet village near mansfield i found it at a price of just £7.99 in a shop called XS.
You may find that i am lucky at this price but, i seem to have some different tracks on my version towards the end of the album comparing other versions!
The
album:
Track 1: Jessica Simpson-I Think Im In Love With You: Generally a poppy sort of track, doesnt set you up for the rest of the album, you may have heard it, its got an ok dancy beat to it, not really my style though! Shes not a bad singer!
Track 2: Evan and Jaron-Crazy For This Girl: The reason for the album, slower pace, more the whole style of the album, soft rock with great, sing along in the bath lyrics. "When you look at her, she looks at me, shes got me thinkin about her constantly." Great!
Track 3: Train-Respect: Available on their album too, not bad, another soft rock one, not as good as their "Drops of Jupiter" track but worth a listen. The lyrics arent as stronga and doe get a bit repetative, especailly if you listen a few times to write an opinion on it!
Track 4: The Jayhawks-Im Gonna Make You Love Me: Not the same as the Madeline Bell version, in fact very different. Slower, less character, im not sure if its even the same song, not bad, needs more to it though!
Track 5: Lara Fabian-Givin Up On You: A sweet ballard for those romantics out there, a nice weepy one, some good lyrics, never heard of her but she has a good voice!
Track 6: Five for Fighting-Superman: A strangely compelling voice, great lyrics, another mellow ballard, and yes another weepy one. Again never heard of these but not bad.
Track 7: Nine Days-If I Am: A great song, a nice soft rock track, some interesting lyrics, the backbeat carries this track nicely. "You should never let the sun set on tomorrow."
Track 8: Shawn Colvin-Never Saw Blue Like That: Pace is brought right down again now, a nice voice, another weepy, mellow track. Great again for those old romantic, Bridget Jones wannabes!
Track 9: Splendor-I Think God Can Explain: Not weepy, yay, a great soft rock track; "Its alright, im ok, i think god can explain." What more need i say?
Track 10: Michal-Broken Boy: Same sort of tone as all the other soft rock styles, doesnt quite fit though, the lyrics just dont sound right with the singers voice. Thats what i think but give it a listen and see what you think.
Track 11: Pete Yorn-Just Another: Slower again, sounds like hes dying though, speak up man, he does sound like hes ill to start with, worse than Rod Stewart! Honestly! Dont like this one much!
Track 12: Jessica Andrews-Show Me Heaven; Yes it is the same song as that which you know and love or have hever heard of.
Track 13: Mary Beth Maziarz-Daydream Beleiver: Oh my god what the hell, were they thinking, yes it is the same as Monkees track, but it is painfully slow! Shocking!
Track 14: Bo Kaspers Orkester-You and Me: Who? The name says it all! not bad if your into Jazz club type lyrics without any real bass beat! Ok but not what i tend to listen to.
Track 15: Black Posse-Danse: UB40 eat your heart out! its got that sort of beat to it. very ethnic compared to the rest of the album, its also in french which again says it all! A good beat, a bit of a welcome change from the weepy slow ones but what? Did this really appear on Dawsons Creek?
Track 16: Racoon-Feel Like Flying: Very country style. Interesting lyrics, not a bad track and very different to the previous track. Worth the listen!
Track 17: Spitball-Trouble: What? Yet again another strange addition, very retro, 80's techno pop comes to mind! A poor track!
Track 18: Yum-Happy: Rather dancy, another retro 80's style, not bad better than the 1st one! The song is an ok one to finish on, not my favourite!
Overall the album is diverse,it really has something for most people and most "normal people" (i use the term loosely) will dislike a few of the tracks! It really is worth a listen, even though i seem to have purchased a dodgy version! But who cares when i got it for £7.99! You may see why i bought it if you hear the Evan and Jaron track! Enjoy.
The cover is white witha pic of 4 of the Creek gang on the front in the righthand corner the lettering in black reads, "songs from" (then in red) Dawsons Creek (Black again) Volume 2. Thanks for reading; GGF
