I first noticed The Killers when I saw the video for their song Somebody Told Me, which was a really catchy light-ish rock song and I enjoyed the other singles from that album.
I didn't hear much from the band (who hail from Nevada, USA) for a year or so until I heard the single Human from this album, Day and Age, on the radio. It was also really catchy and up beat and so when I found out about Amazon offering £3 worth of free MP3 downloads on Christmas day and boxing day, I decided I wanted to purchase this album as part of that deal, so I was glad when I found out that it was available for exactly £3.
For £3 its extremely cheap, as it turns out that this is IMO a very good album, with a number of catchy tracks that the more you listen to, the catchier and better they become. It is one of those albums where on first listen, it doesn't seem too remarkable but if you stick with it and listen through the tracklisting a few times, the tracks gradually grow on you.
The
album consist of 11 tracks and my personal favourites are A Crippling Blow, one of the more uptempo tracks that builds up in pace and features a very catchy beat/tune as well as some nice electronica, the single Human which is just a generally fun, almost disco-type song thats good for having a little dance to of course, Neon Tiger, with memorable lyrics and again a catchy tune to it and Losing Touch, which again is catchy and has a nice beat to it, its quite a memorable track.
It does of course have quite an 'alternative' feel to it, its not particularly mainstream but at the same time I think it is quite listenable. I do like some rock music but I didn't feel intimidated when I listened to this, I admit I had been put off buying previous albums by this group in the past because I was concerned that I liked their singles but that I might well end up spending alot on their CDs and then discovering that it was only their singles I found particularly good and confining the CDs to the back of my cupboard. As it happens, certainly as far as this album is concerned, that wasn't the case and I've listened right through the whole album quite a few times since I purchased it.
Apart from the songs I've already mentioned as being my favourite, other tracks I also like (though that aren't as good as the previously mentioned ones) include The World We Live In, which has a nice light and airy type feel to it, its not as memorable as other tracks but it is quite upbeat and pleasant and you could tap your toes to it I suppose, if you know what I mean lol. Also Joy Ride, which is again very upbeat and quite catchy, you could dance to this track too but apart from the chorus, its not very memorable and This Is Your Life, which again has a good beat but the lyrics are too complicated and its not as catchy as other tracks, this is more of a mid tempo track, being neither fast or slow paced, so it would make for a weak single I feel, although I don't think its awful.
Other tracks on this album that I'm not as keen on, which are the 'fillers' I'd say (these are just my opinions though, of course) include A Dustland Fairytale (lyrically too long winded and not really catchy or memorable), Spaceman (ditto), I Can't Stay, which is too 'light and fluffy' and repetitive and then there's Goodnight, Travel Well, which is the only real slow paced track on the album, its quite atmospheric and has an eery feel to it, although its certainly not one you could dance to and its a bit too repetitive and long, its not really my sort of thing.
So that covers all of the tracks, I hope this gave you a good idea of what their like roughly and I hope it helps you judge whether or not its worth investing in the album.
Just to summarise, this is mainly an upbeat and fun soft rock/alternative rock album. Its nice to have something modern and uplifting to listen to and so I would recommend it.
Oh and one last thing, for anyone curious about the album, you can also listen to clips of all of the tracks on Amazon UKs website, if you search for 'Day and Age' and click on the top result (the CD) then scroll down to the track listing. You can choose which track to preview or you can listen to previews of all of them, which should help you to decide whether this album is for you or not.
Thanks for reading my review, again I hope its useful for you and thanks for any and all r/r/c's. This review is posted on both DooYoo UK and Ciao UK under my username which is the same on both sites, IzzyS.

I liked the first album but wasn't too keen on 'Sam's Town' so I'm still undecided as to whether to bother with this one or not. Eleanor x

I loved their first and second albums, but I found their third one rather disappointing. Sounds like they might be back on form so I may purchase this one, Lexy
