The Philadelphia Experiment
Review of Philadelphia Experiment, The - Philadelphia Experiment by  xlefrogx

Advantages: just press play and listen
Disadvantages: you can fitt so many tracks on an cd.

...Uri Caine : piano/ keyboard ?uestlove : drums ( the Roots) Christian McBride : Electric/ acoustic Bass The Philadelphia Experiment could be described as an ablum made by musician from Philly doing "cover" of track recorded in Philly or related to Philly. Not your basic cover album done by some faceless obscur band , those guys knows their stuff and will take you on a musical trip. Anything goes on this . Sun-Ra, Bill Wither( oops a secret track maybe...), Marvin Gaye, Elton John. That album has the feel and the sound of a bunch of old friend deciding to have a jam to the glory of their city. I loved that album, way more than the remixed one done by King Britt, something worth buying if you have any interest in jazz, funk or just like great music .... Read review

Modern Jazz at its very Best!
Review of Way Up, The - Pat Metheny Group by  redranger42

Advantages: A groundbreaking highly original Landmark work!
Disadvantages: None

...and one of the Pat Metheny Groups very best. When I first heard the album I thought is was terrific and very intriguing. I felt I had to listen to again and again and I am so glad I did. The album is complex, rich, beautiful and melodic. Yet, It is not overly done and complicated. I like straight-ahead and progressive Jazz. The Way Up is a groundbreaking statement in Jazz. This album is in the place between the cracks, where defined genres disappear into a poetic whole and what emerges is something utterly new, guided and inspired by the limitless creativity of the jazz tradition.... 68 minutes of JAZZ hell
Review of Way Up, The - Pat Metheny Group by  mints4merlin

Advantages: CD can be used as a wall decoration or disco ball alternative
Disadvantages: horrid - a true torture tune 68 minutes i wont forget!

...with a slow and soulful expression which unfortunately this album lacks completely. This is a type of modern music jazz which trys an alternative approach to funk jazz - it's a type i havent come across before and honestly can say did not enjoy one little bit. True to say it's being a bit ambitiousand attemps to delivery jazz on the front line. Unfortunaltely it didnt do anything for me and I won't be making the mistake of buying anything from Pat Metheny in the future. There is a variety of instruments used throughout the 68 min duration - of which make a horrid racket in an attempt to experimentally modernise jaz. This is something that shouldn't really be attempted. Jazz is as it is, a soulful and expressional artform that does not require tinkering or 'hipping' up to ''get down with the kids''. Instruments include the harmonica, which... Read review
