Advantages: Some very good music of which all generations can enjoy. Disadvantages: The album is not her best and some songs are disappointing
Mariah Carey's "Daydream", is an album of which I have mixed emotions. It is, on the whole, a good album, but there are a few songs that I have to turn off to keep my sanity (mainly because some songs sound the same as others and let us face facts, she has a fantastic voice, but she does love to scream).
Including the songs, "Fantasy", "One Sweet Day", "Open Arms" and "Always Be My Baby", ... ...can all sing along to.
The others songs included on the album are not just fillers. They are very good. Though some may have simularity to others and the style is very much the same throughout the album with the exception of one track "Daydream", you will generally find it a worthwhile purchase.

Including the songs, "Fantasy", "One Sweet Day", "Open Arms" and "Always Be My Baby", the album has a few well-known songs of which we can all sing along to.

In this album Mariah Carey does a very touching and beautiful duet with Boyz II Men, called "One Sweet Day". I can not actually remember if it was released as a single, but if it wasn't it should have been. It is and outstanding song.
"Looking In" is the last track of the album, it has a lot of emotion and seems quite deep. "Daydream", on the other hand, is a very 'dancy' tune, (if you will pardon the expression).
Her genre is rock, and her style is most definitely somewhwere between dance and pop.
If you like Mariah Carey, then please do listen to this album. You may find it quite brilliant, though, you may find it terrible.
My opinion is, it isn't outstanding, but it isn't terrible. Its just plain old 'good'. Nothing more, nothing less.
...The songs are catchy enough, the production is first-class, but Daydream is severely lacking in the soul department. This album plays as if it was made for mass consumption – a little bit of everything to keep everybody happy. The end result sacrifices integrity for shallow mass appeal. ...

Advantages: good songs Disadvantages: rubbish remixes
Mariah Carey has had many top selling albums in her career but i still think this is the beast one. With songs such as One sweet day, melt away and of course Day dream, i am sure that this album will still be the best in years to come. The only aspect of this album that i do not like is the remixes that are included at the end of the cd. I think the album would have been a lot better if a few 'B side' tracks would have been included instead. But ...

Personally, I think that this was Mariah Carey’s last good album. There are some really beautiful songs here and, unlike on her previous album, ‘Music Box,’ the faster songs are actually quite good. The best of the fast songs has to be ‘Fantasy’ which is a great uplifting track. As with previous Mariah Carey albums, the ballads are the best tracks and songs like ‘Forever’ and ‘Melt Away’ are really beautiful. The lyrics aren’t that original but unlike ...

All songs co-written by Mariah Carey except "Open Arms" (S. Perry/J. Cain). Samples included "Genius Of Love" (as performed by Tom Tom Club). DAYDREAM was nominated for 1996 Grammy Awards for Album Of The Year and Best Pop Album. "One Sweet Day" was nominated for Record Of The Year and Best Pop Collaboration With Vocals; "Fantasy" was nominated for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance; and "Always Be My Baby" was nominated for Best Female R&B Vocal Performance. On DAYDREAM, Mariah Carey's singing expands the panorama of its emotional release--her voice, having been a strictly powerful pure instrument, now taking on the thespian strategies of great vocalists. She has added subtle understatement to her bag of tricks. On the hit single "Fantasy," a groovin' piece of soulful pop based on a sample of the Tom Tom Club's "Genius Of Love," the chorus layers generous helpings of her voice. But rather than featuring the high-pitched lead she's famous for, the vocal parts reflect off each other in penetrating harmony. When she gets to cooing the key "I'm in heaven..." refrain as the fade-out hook, Carey's voice carries an enticing faux-innocence to match any of Madonna's good girl/bad girl come-ons. There is also her cover of Journey's "Open Arms," on which the a capella opening drifts into the stardust sound effects and the electric piano accompaniment, and the singer pours herself into a striking, minor-key declaration. There's also a more obvious modern R&B sheen to DAYDREAM than any of Carey's previous work. "One Sweet Day," her collaboration with Boyz II Men, sways with the sugary gospel cum synth-soul feel of the Philadelphia quartet's grandest romantic ballads. "Always Be My Baby," co-produced by Carey and Jermaine Dupri, expresses the simple, catchy melodic poise of the R&B girl-groups of the late 1950's and early '60s. And a Carey album wouldn't be complete without a track that rushes the listener onto the dance-floor. DAYDREAM'S nominee is David Morales' rolling "Daydream Interlude (Fantasy Sweet Dub Mix)" which explodes from a duet between Carey's vocal runs and a minimal keyboard part, into a house groove spurred on by tinklingly funky piano licks.
