Nostalgia has crept in a bit recently as I recalled some of the songs from my youth, I happened upon one on You Tube which wafted me back to 1967 the song in question was Jesamine by The Casuals, and I suspect many of you reading this are already confused. Yeah 1967 does seem along time ago but the music still lives vibrant in the memories of us old foggies, and many of you younger ones may well be pleasantly surprised if you care to listen to some of the classic songs from that era.

To do so you could do far worse than purchase this Days of Flower Power album currently available for around £1.99 from Ebay or £1.37 on Amazon. As the name may have already given away the type of music you will not then be surprised to know that the album cover which is predominately reddy pink with a large yellow flower Taking pride of place in the bottom right hand corner.

There are 18 tracks on this album which for £1.99 makes them just over 10p each…………….absolutely superb value for us oldies. The track listing is as below

1. Mr Tamborine Man - The Byrds
2. Games People Play - Doc South
3. Happy Together - The Turtles
4. Lets go to San Fransisco - The Flowerpot Men
5. In A Gadda da Vida - Iron Butterfly
6. Good Morning Starshine - Oliver
7. Incense and Peppermints - Strawberry Alarm Clock
8. Monday Monday - Spanky and our Gang
9. San Fransisco Nights - The Animals
10 Elenore - The Turtles
11. Turn Turn Turn - The Byrds
12. Judy in Disguise - John Fred and The Playboy Band
13. Me and You and a Dog named Boo - Lobo
14. Lay Down - Melanie
15. Tip Toe through the Tulips - Tiny Tim
16. She's not There - The Zombies
17. Goin out of my head - Little Anthony and The Imperials
18, Oh Happy day - Edwin Hawkins

Many will have already noticed from the track list that they have never heard of half of the songs or in fact any of the groups which do seems to have some like far out names man, this has probably a lot to do with a certain substance which was very much favoured in the sixties, when Love peace and a little of the other seemed to be all a lot of people required. This album brings back a lot of memories for me and the tracks well most of them were all chart toppers in their day.

To many of you a lot of the tracks may sound a little dated and perhaps even a bit simplistic but remember there weren't the technological innovations we have today, a few guitars and a drum was pretty much your lot unless you were already a success and could afford some orchestral accompaniment. For all of its simplicity, and indeed some of its apparent childishness it is a fun album, and not one to be taken to seriously either musically or lyrically. Some of the tracks will be recognisable since they were major hits and as such still get a little airplay in this high tech screeching musical turmoil we call today. This music is more relaxing and much less intrusive than some offerings available today, that's not a criticism of today's music I like a lot of what is on offer but this album is something different for you young ones to hear and make a judgement on its merits. It does have merits there are some great songs on it, but you may feel that it is going back too far.

On the other hand the older ones can join be in a good old nostalgic sing song, probably mostly to The Byrds with their Turn Turn Turn which was a huge hit, or perhaps Good Morning Starshine. There is much to admire about the music of the sixties and this album is a nice little intro into that special period in musical history, and for a measly £2 you can here how it all started.

I was born in the year that Jesamine was released and I suspect flower power may have some bearing on my existence. As you rightly say there are some great songs there but sadly they dont make them like that any more (please kick me - i'm starting to sound like my dad did 25 years ago agh !!)
